An Amazon delivery driver’s split-second decision to use a portable toilet on private property has sparked a heated debate online after he was confronted by the homeowner. The viral video has left viewers divided over whether the driver crossed a line or was simply trying to meet a basic need while out on his delivery route.
In the footage shared to TikTok and Reddit, the homeowner can be seen recording the Amazon driver as he exits a porta potty on her property. “Are you serious right now? Are you serious?” she asks sternly. The driver appears a little surprised by the confrontation and simply replies, “Hi.“
The homeowner continues, “This is our house. And it’s under construction. Did the porta potty say, ‘Let’s use it?’” The driver then responds, “No… Spanish,” seemingly indicating that he does not understand what she is saying.
The homeowner goes on to say, “That’s not your porta potty for you to just use. This is our house. This is not your porta potty. Why would you just use that? It’s on our property.” The driver then hands her his phone, seemingly in an attempt to show that he is on his delivery route.
As the clip comes to an end, the homeowner says, “That’s like me going to your house and using your bathroom.”
The confrontation quickly sparked debate online, though many viewers felt the Amazon driver had done nothing wrong.
Viewers Side With the Amazon Driver
Many commenters felt the homeowner had overreacted, arguing that an unlocked porta potty on an active construction site is generally understood to be available for use. One Reddit user wrote, “I don’t give a [expletive], I see a porta potty and I’m using it.”
Others pointed to their own experiences. One commenter shared, “I was having some work done on the outside of my house and the crew dropped a porta potty at the end of my driveway… I gave zero [expletive]. Construction crew didn’t seem to care either. If a toilet is unlocked it’s fair game.” Another, who identified themselves as a construction superintendent, added, “Construction superintendent here. I will speak on behalf of all construction site porta potties. If the porta potty is accessible it is fair game. Just please be clean about it, don’t leave trash behind or in the tank.”
Others largely sided with the driver but took issue with how he responded during the exchange. One Reddit user wrote, “If the porta potty is not locked, it’s fair use to me. He didn’t need to do the belly tapping tho lool.”
Similar reactions appeared on TikTok, where one viewer commented, “To be fair that is a public restroom,” while another added, “Nobody wants to use a porta potty—it must have been an emergency.”
Whether viewers sided with the homeowner or the Amazon driver, the video has sparked a conversation about where people draw the line between respecting private property and extending a little understanding when someone simply needs to use the bathroom.
