Disney is ready to reboot a fan favorite movie. They’re reaching deep into the Disney Vault for this one. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is coming back but with a Frozen actor instead. Josh Gad is joining the crew. Gad is the son, Nick Szalinski, of the father Wayne Szalinski following in the footsteps of his father. Now with his own family, Gad’s character is set to shrink his own family. The series continues with the same problems of the first film, maybe with a few twists and turns along the way.
Disney is releasing the new reboot or sequel for a theatrical release rather than for its new Disney+ streaming service. The Disney+ streaming service already has some new Star Wars material ready for release. The new Shrunk movie is set to be released for theatres but there could very well be some spinoffs from the new movie. The new movie is still looking for its director.
Josh Gad is set to be appearing in some other films these next few years as well. He signed on to voice the Olaf character again for Frozen 2. The first Frozen did bring great success for him and Disney. He also has shown his demand to play the Penguin for the rumored Batman movie in the DCEU. Gad has appeared previously in the live action movie of Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson. His previous movies with Disney have been successes, making sense this new Shrunk movie will be as well.
There is no release date for the new Shrunk movie, but there might be an appearance by Rick Moranis himself. With Disney resurrecting old properties from their vault, there very well could be more oldies made alive again for more Disney profit. We will only know when it comes time for Disney to need a sure-fire profit machine. Tell us if you think this is the way for Disney to keep their properties relevant or if there’s something else they’re trying to accomplish.
