Welt is a Nihility Imaginary character in Honkai Star Rail and is one of the most versatile units available. His unique and powerful attacks allow him to flex as a hypercarry or a support unit, and as such, he is a valuable character to have in your party. Unlike most units, the addition of new characters to the roster increases Welt’s utility. This is a great time to prepare the best builds and team comps for Welt in Honkai Star Rail.
Best Builds and Team Comps for Welt Yang in Honkai Star Rail
[Updated on April 2 – New builds and team comps added]
Even though Welt is a Nihility character, he is most commonly used as a hypercarry DPS character, thanks to his high damage multipliers and bouncing Skill. However, Welt is an incredibly flexible character. You can feasibly use him as a Nihility support, a hypercarry, or even a pseudo-sustain unit.
Best Build for Welt in Honkai Star Rail: Light Cones & Relics
Due to Welt’s high versatility, your desired Light Cone will depend on what you’re tailoring your Welt towards. As a result, we’ll go over the best Light Cones to use based on how you want to build your Welt.
DPS Light Cones
No. | Best Light Cones |
1 | Along the Passing Shore (5*): This is currently Welt’s best option for a DPS build. It is Acheron’s signature Light Cone, but if you’re a Welt main, you should consider this LC seriously. It provides a massive 36% Crit DMG boost, a 24% flat DMG boost, and a 24% Ultimate DMG boost. |
2 | In the Name of the World (5*): This is Welt’s signature Light Cone and helps balance out his damage and utility. This Light Cone buffs Welt’s DMG by 24% (to debuffed enemies), his ATK by 24%, and his Effect Hit Rate by 18%. It doesn’t provide the raw damage that Along the Passing Shore does, so you’ll have to compensate through his Relics with high Crit stats. |
3 | Good Night and Sleep Well (4*): This is his best free-to-play friendly option. At Superimposition 5, it can increase Welt’s damage by up to 72%, as it provides a 24% DMG boost based on how many debuffs are on a target. Welt has plenty of debuffs between a DMG increased debuff, a slow, and the Imprison debuff, so this is a great option. |
Support Light Cones
Note: These Light Cones aren’t listed in any particular order. Choose a Light Cone with an effect that will benefit your team the most:
No. | Best Light Cones |
1 | Before the Tutorial Mission Starts (4*): For a purely support-oriented Welt, this free event Light Cone provides the most Effect Hit Rate, making it almost guaranteed that your debuffs will land. This Light Cone also provides some Energy regeneration, allowing Welt to use his Ultimate more frequently. |
2 | Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat (4*): This Light Cone provides an additional debuff, Ensnare, which decreases an enemy’s defense by 16% for 1 turn. This helps the team deal some extra damage, but you’ll need to compensate with enough Effect Hit Rate through his relics. |
3 | Eyes of the Prey (4*): If you’re in dire need of Effect Hit Rate, you can use this Light Cone for a 40% EHR boost at Superimposition 5. Note: the DoT passive for this Light Cone is entirely wasted on Welt, so only use this as an emergency option if you need to buff Welt’s EHR. |
These Light Cones also work for his pseudo-sustain build, which focuses on delaying enemy actions as much as possible. The pseudo-sustain build does value EHR over any other stat to ensure that his delays and slows work properly.
DPS Relics
These Relics are recommended for Welt’s hypercarry build. Some new relics have been introduced to the game since Welt’s launch, so if you have the spare Trailblaze Power, consider farming for these sets:
Relic Set | Effect | Explanation |
Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters | 2-piece: Increases DMG dealt to enemies with debuff by 12%. 4-piece: Increases Crit Rate by 4%. The wearer deals 8%/12% increased Crit DMG to enemies with at least 2/3 debuffs. After the wearer inflicts a debuff on enemy targets, the aforementioned effects increase by 100% for 1 turn. | This new Relic Set overtakes Welt’s previous option, the Wastelander of Banditry Desert. Welt can easily earn a 24% Crit DMG buff with his attacks, as he applies multiple debuffs on his own. |
Wastelander of Banditry Desert | 2-piece: Increases Imaginary DMG by 10%. 4-piece: When attacking debuffed enemies, the wearer’s Crit Rate increases by 10%, and their Crit DMG increases by 20% against Imprisoned enemies. | This Relic Set is slightly worse than Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters due to more inconsistent damage. However, it is not worth replacing this set unless you have superior substats on the Pioneer of Dead Waters set. |
Here are Welt’s best DPS Planars:
Planar Set | Effect | Explanation |
Glamoth’s Silent Tombstone | 2-piece: Increases the wearer’s ATK by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD is equal to 135 or 160, the wearer deals 12%/18% more DMG. | This will increase Welt’s damage significantly, provided you have enough Crit substats in the rest of his build. |
Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm | 2-piece: Increases the wearer’s ATK by 12%. When entering battle, if at least one other ally follows the same Path as the wearer, then the wearer’s Crit Rate increases by 12%. | This is around the same level as Glamoth’s Silent Tombstone in terms of damage, but you lose the flat DMG increase. This is significantly easier to build around, as it provides a 12% Crit Rate buff to help ease the Crit requirements from the rest of your Relics. Note: You’ll have to pair Welt with at least one other Nihility unit if using this set. |
Taikiyan’s Arclight Race Track | 2-piece: Increases the wearer’s Crit Rate by 8%. When the current wearer’s Crit Rate reaches 70% or higher, the wearer’s Basic ATK and Skill DMG increase by 20%. | This provides some easy Crit Rate value for Welt and greatly empowers his Skill, which makes up most of Welt’s damage. However, Welt still does significant damage with his Ultimate, making this a subpar option if you have better substats on the other recommended Planar sets. |
Support Relics & Planars
Support Welt still deals a decent amount of damage, so we do recommend that you use most of the same DPS Relics. However, alter your build so that you get enough Speed, Energy Regeneration Rate, and Effect Hit Rate. After getting enough of these stats, you can go ahead and build damage stats, such as Crit stats or ATK. You might want to swap out some Planars, however:
Set | Effect | Explanation |
Penacony, Land of Dreams | 2-piece: Increases wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 5%. Increases DMG by 10% for all other allies that are of the same Type as the wearer. | Support Welt wants to use his Ultimate as much as possible, so we’ll opt for an ERR planar set to make this happen. This also provides a 10% DMG buff if you are running Welt with an Imaginary unit. Be sure to run an Energy Regeneration Rope as well. |
Sprightly Vonwacq | 2-piece: Increases wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 5%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, the wearer’s action is Advanced Forward by 40% immediately upon entering battle. | This is similar to the previous set but loses the 10% Imaginary DMG buff. You should use this set if you are using Support Welt with a non-Imaginary DPS unit. |
Best Team Comps for Welt in Honkai Star Rail
Welt has many possible teams, thanks to his ability to flex as a hypercarry DPS unit or as a support debuffer / sustain unit. As a result, we’ll split up his recommended team comps based on how you decide to use Welt.
DPS Team Comps
Team Comp | Description |
Welt / Sparkle / Bronya / Luocha | This team comp spams massive buffs to Welt, constantly action-forwarding him and allowing him to unleash devastating attacks. Welt tends to use his Skill quite a bit, making him SP hungry, so Sparkle is here to add some Skill Point generation for Welt. You can replace Bronya with Tingyun, who provides positive SP-generation and Ultimate regeneration. |
Welt / Ruan Mei / Yukong / Luocha | Welt deals high Toughness damage thanks to his bouncing Skill attack. When fighting Imaginary-weak enemies, bringing a team of Ruan Mei, Yukong, and Luocha can allow you to keep enemies in an infinitely broken state. |
Welt / Tingyun / Asta / March 7th | A free-to-play alternative if you happen to obtain Welt through the Standard Banner. March 7th can Freeze your enemies while you Imprison them with Welt’s Ultimate. Asta and Tingyun can provide sufficient offensive buffs. |
Support Team Comps
Team Comp | Description |
Welt / Acheron / Pela / Gallagher | Welt can provide tons of debuffs for Acheron, especially if he uses the Resolution Shines as Pearls Sweat Light Cone. Pela is the second debuffer for Acheron, while Gallagher is your sustain unit who can also debuff enemies. If Gallagher is not enough to sustain, or if managing Skill Points is tricky, you can swap to Luocha instead. |
Welt / Ruan Mei / Sparkle / Pela | Welt can double as a DPS-sustain unit here, as the point of sustain-Welt is to take the place of a healer. Because you are running Welt with three supports that increase his damage, he can still dish out some strong DPS here. |
