The Pokémon Company has officially announced that the Mythical Psychic/Ghost Pokémon, Hoopa, will be coming to Pokémon Unite as part of the Pokémon Day event held on February 27, 2022. This event will be added to the game with new Holowerar, special battles, and challenges.
Hoopa – the Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation VI’s Kalos region – is listed as a ranged Supporter class Pokémon. As part of the Pokémon Day 2022 celebration, its Unite License is now available for purchase in the in-game United Battle Committee shop.
Hoopa’s primary ability seems to be teleportation, as it can transport itself and any of its allies either back to base or from one lane to the other in an instant using its ring portals. Hoopa’s Unite move sees it transform into its Unbound state, making it faster and more powerful. Hoopa can also create a bond between it and an ally Pokémon, buffing the ally in the process while also warping Berries from the opponent’s side of the map to its own location in order to steal these items and perform faster healing.
An official Pokémon Day 2022 celebration video was also released to showcase the new features coming to Pokémon Unite alongside the release of Hoopa. For one, a new quick battle mode called Full-fury battles will be available, which will have shorter team set-up windows and accelerated recovery times. Almost everything is sped up with easier-to-chain attacks, faster cooldowns, and increased Aeos energy given for knocking enemy Pokémon down.
According to the Pokémon Unite website, Full-fury battles will be available on February 27. They will continue as limited-time battles available only on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays in correlation with specific events. Players will also be able to receive special Trainer fashion items just for logging in to Pokémon Unite during the Pokémon Day 2022 event. On the first day, Trainers can receive a T-shirt featuring a Pokémon Day logo, and on the second day, they can receive a matching cap to go with it.
