Horizon Chase is a pretty, stylish, mobile arcade racing game inspired by genre titles of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras with a pretty kickin’ sound track. It is going for a measly $2.99 on both the app store and android platforms currently. In addition to simply being inspired by its retro ancestors Horizon Chase is also reminiscent of them for another reason; it hides an interesting secret. For those too young to be aware of it back in the days before downloadable content and in-app purchases when developers wanted to add a little something extra to their game they often hid it in some manner. Sometimes these bonuses came in the form of secret areas, cheat codes, and obscure hidden objectives that needed to be performed before you could unlock that one rumored character or mysterious item someone told you about.
As it turns out the developers of Horizon Chase have included just such a secret although this one does not come in the form of bonus content but rather is, in fact, a wedding proposal, from the games composer Barry to his long-time girlfriend Karen. In the words of the developers: “We knew about Barry’s love story with Karen (his first girlfriend from adolescence) since the very beginning of the project. After getting it as a suggestion from Barry, we thought it would be so cool to add an Easter Egg to the game, a love letter that could serve as Barry’s proposal to Karen.”
They even made a couple of videos about it.
