The highly-anticipated release of Horizon: Forbidden West has finally arrived! Players are excited to jump back into the world introduced in the acclaimed 2017 title and are ready to see the next step in Aloy’s story. But before they enter the game properly, they have the option to select between two modes called Guided and Explorer. The game itself doesn’t recommend one or the other, so players will want to know what each mode is before picking one. This guide will tell you if you should play Explorer or Guided Mode in Horizon: Forbidden West.
Should You Play Explorer Or Guided Mode In Horizon Forbidden West?
The decision of which of the two modes players should choose comes down to personal preference since there are only slight differences between the two, mostly surrounding how the HUD and UI are displayed in-game. Guided Mode will help players navigate the world by high lighting essential objects related to the quest that the player is currently doing. It will also provide players with routes to take that will put them on the path to the location they need to go to for a given mission or quest. This is a mode that is meant to help players find their way through the world in a straightforward manner with very little chance of getting lost. Explorer Mode strips this visual aid back, with the only thing pointing players in the right direction being the objective marker found on the compass at the top of the screen. You can still see a path to follow by marking it on the map, but the path will not appear in the game world like it would with Guided. This is the mode for players who want to figure out how to get to objectives and solve some of the environmental puzzles that the game provides themselves.

Don’t worry if you make your choice and decide that you want to change it. You can do that very quickly by toggling between Guided and Explorer Mode in the settings menu under the General tab under “Quest Pathfinding.” If you ever want to switch to the other option or simply want to give it a try, you can do so through the menu.
