Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most successful games from 2017, both critically and financially. It sold 10 million copies within 2 years and holds an 89 on Metacritic. We here at The Nerd Stash adored the title, justifiably so, giving it a 5-star review. Needless to say, people love it. And after developer Guerrilla Games released a fantastic piece of story DLC in The Frozen Wilds, many players probably wondered when the next chapter would come. That was under the pretense that it would be the team’s next project instead of something else. But now, a new job listing makes the future seem a little clearer.
As first reported on by GamesRadar+, a new job listing seems to confirm a sequel is currently in development. Guerrilla posted a plethora of job openings within the past two weeks. These include a Senior Cinematic Animator, a Senior Game Programmer, and a Senior Art Producer. But only one of them makes mention of the Horizon Zero Dawn world. And that’s the Technical Vegetation Artist.
“Within Guerrilla, we have four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments of Horizon. One team focuses on the creation of lush and stunning vegetation. We build these 3D models from scratch, so our world dressing teams can deliver our immersive world with industry-benchmark graphics.”
It goes on to describe the position’s requirements in more detail. Admittedly, that’s not much to go off of. But it’s one small step towards making the vast assumption a reality. Horizon Zero Dawn 2, or whatever it ends up being called, is all but a sure thing. With the amount of success the first game saw and room left for a sequel, it would be baffling for Guerrilla Games to work on something new. Or to go back to their previous franchise, Killzone. And it will make a nice addition to the PS5 library.
Horizon Zero Dawn is set in an open world with many unique, luxuriant environments. So it’s safe to say that the Technical Vegetation Artist will have their work cut out for them.
