The most significant feature of Sea of Thieves Season Ten is the introduction of Guilds, allowing players to join personalized communities. This innovative system is built upon the previous captaincy update, allowing players to have a shared game progression and win collaborative rewards. Each Guild member can contribute to increasing the overall Guild’s reputation and unlock new prizes. However, understanding how Guilds work in Sea of Thieves is essential. So, let’s dive deeper into the mechanics of Guilds in Sea of Thieves.
A Guild in Sea of Thieves is a player-run community that allows players to join forces, work towards common goals, and share rewards, enhancing social gameplay. Each Guild consists of 24 players, and it has its name, motto, and branding. Each pirate can be an owner or a member of up to three Guilds. Any player can create a Guild and invite other players to join a Guild. Also, captains can pledge their ships to a Guild and choose whether other Guild members can sail on those ships and complete ship milestones in their absence.
How To Create a Guild
If you are a ship captain, you can create your Guild. You can not make one if you are not a captain, as you must pledge one of your captained ships to the Guild. You can create it from the main menu by selecting the Guild option and customizing the crest, mark, colors, name, and motto. The name can be customized according to your preference. However, the motto has to be selected from the list of available slogans. You can change these later as long as you own it. You can also pass the ownership to another member if you wish.
Once you pledge a ship to the Guild, it will be removed from the My Ships menu and moved to the Guild menu. Also, the ship’s progression will contribute to the Guild’s progression. However, you will still be the owner of the ship. Any member can pledge their captained ships to the Guild. Also, you can choose whether you allow other members to sail your vessel without you. You do not need to worry if they change the ship’s customization since you can change them back online.
Once you set your Guild, you can sail with the Guild crew, apart from old options to sail Open or Closed crew. When you choose a Guild crew when you have an open space on your ship while sailing, any Guild member can join the session without an invite.
How to Join a Guild
You can join a Guild in Sea of Thieves through an invitation from another player. You will find these invitations in the invite section. Any pirate can join any Guild if they are not a member of more than three Guilds, and spots are available. Also, members can invite players directly using the Invite Emote. Just be sure to accept the invitation before seven days since they expire after that.
What are the Roles of Guilds?
Guilds in Sea of Thieves have three types of players, owner, leaders, and members. The Guild owner can customize the permissions of the different roles, change Guild roles, invite and recruit new members, or kick out members. Leaders can invite and kick out members, while members can only invite others. However, these options are as customizable as you like.
How to Level up Your Guild
You and your Guild members can level up your Guild by doing general activities of Sea of Thieves. When you reach the Reputation Level 100, your Guild will earn a Distinction. Each Distinction will upgrade your Guild Crest and Plaque, and everyone will be able to see it. You can access the Guild Emissary status with Reputation Level 15.
As your Guild progresses, you can earn many shared rewards, such as Ships Role Clothing. It allows you to roleplay as a Navigator, Cook, Helsman, or Cannoneer. But remember, some of these rewards you earn within the Guild are only accessible as long as you stay in the Guild.
Guild Emissaries
Guild Emissaries work more similarly to Trading Company Emissaries in Sea of Thieves. You must vote at the Sovereign Tent on the outpost to raise the Emissaries flag. You will earn more rewards by selling treasure to the Sovereigns and increasing the Guild’s reputation. Competing actions will level up your Emissary flag up to level five. Once you reach level five Emissary level, you will be marked on the map so everyone can see you.
Also, Emissaries allow you to earn unique rewards such as new titles, decorative ornaments, and magical live paintings.
Guild Chronicles
Guild Chronicles is similar to a social platform in Sea of Thieves. It keeps you updated with what’s been happening in your Guild since you last played, with highlights of recent activities such as newly achieved milestones and new pledged ships. Also, the Guild Ships Fleet View shows all available ships and members currently online.
Pros and Cons of Guilds
Joining a Guild in Sea of Thieves indeed has a lot of benefits. At the same time, they have some disadvantages too.
Pros
- It allows you to play with the same interested players. For example, if you like to go fishing in Sea of Thieves, you can join a Guild focused on fishing, or if you like to go on adventures and combat, there are Guilds dedicated to that playstyle as well.
- You can progress in the game together and earn exclusive rewards.
- The game progression will be faster when you play as a team.
Cons
- Being part of a Guild means working as a team, so you may have less freedom in choosing what activities or quests to do than playing solo.
- If you decide to leave the Guild, some rewards you earn in the Guild might be lost.
- You might feel less control over the game, especially your pledged ships.
Therefore, joining a Guild in Sea of Thieves can provide a unique and engaging gameplay experience. Guild membership allows players to team up with like-minded players, accelerate progression, and unlock exclusive rewards. However, you need to weigh these benefits against potential drawbacks such as reduced freedom and loss of control.
