How Do the Season 14 Support Items Work in League of Legends? Explained

A new item to make me even more lax when playing Support? Sign me up!

While many Summoners doubtless stay on top of things regarding changes and new content in League of Legends, those less active, such as myself, tend to miss out on what’s been modified on the Rift. That said, if you main Support and checked the shop to grab the usual Edge or Shield, you might have been surprised to see nothing but a weird scroll called the World Atlas. If you were taken aback by the lack of any other Support items in LoL Season 14, you’re certainly not alone.

What Is the World Atlas in LoL? Explained

Instead of individual upgradable Support items in LoL like Spellthief’s Edge or Spectral Sickle, Season 14’s World Atlas can be thought of as an “all-in-one” package that can evolve into your preferred utility. By “evolve,” I mean you don’t have to worry about purchasing separate quest items at the start of a match, as the World Atlas will turn into a Ward item, Runic Compass, after reaching 500 Gold and Bounty of Worlds at 1,000.

You might be wondering, “But how does questing work with this World Atlas?” Good news — it does what the past season’s Support items did in one, meaning you can both attack enemy Champions and farm Minions with your ADC (to a reasonable extent, of course). One thing I should mention is that the World Atlas is an “aggressively supportive” item; you can only earn Gold via questing when near an ally Champion, aka your ADC.

When you hit the 1,000-Gold mark and obtain the Bounty of Worlds, you don’t need to return to the Nexus to buy a new upgrade. Instead, your five new Support item options for Season 14 of LoL will appear in your HUD, similar to Ornn’s forging. You can check the wikis or in-game descriptions for details and stats, but I’ll cover what each is good for in simpleton’s terms:

Season 14 Support ItemItem Passive & Simple Explanation
Celestial OppositionBlessing of the Mountain: This effect functions similar Leona’s Eclipse (W) by reducing incoming damage with a temporary shield. Once the timer is up, your shield will break, damaging and slowing enemies around you. If you’re a Support who serves as the tanky initiator in fight, I could see this doing wonders with its AoE.
Solstice SleighGoing Sledding: A cute name, this one — if you manage to slow (Soraka’s Q) or immobolize a foe (Morgana’s Q), get ready to spring into action, as this Support Item will restore your HP and grant a brief speed boost. This effect is also applied to a nearby Champion with the lowest HP, who will likely be your squishy ADC.
BloodsongSpellblade: This passive is for the sweaty Summoners who love to compete with their ADC in dishing out the most damage to enemy Champs. Simply put, with Bloodsong, the more you strike your target, the more pain you’ll unleash.
Dream MakerDream Maker: Another adorably named Season 14 Support item, Dream Maker shields and buffs a targeted ally, specifically the one you heal or shield with abilities like Soraka’s W or Janna’s E. Enchanters like myself will love the utility with this one.
Zaz’Zak’s RealmspikeVoid Explosion: If you prefer burst AP Support Champs like Zyra, then this is the item for you. When you attack an enemy, an AoE explosion will trigger
— a great way to start a fight (preferably at a distance).
