Among the many new mechanics and effects you can master, knowing how Fortify works in Diablo 4 is essential for survival. While it may seem a bit over-complicated to understand it at first, once you do, you can extend your character’s life and ensure your gear’s durability. So, if you are struggling with saving your progress thanks to constant deaths in your XP dungeon-farming adventures, then Fortify will give you a little break from the constant dying. Here is how to get Fortify in Diablo 4 and how it works.

How To Use Fortify in Diablo 4

To get Fortify in Diablo 4, first, you must understand how it works. Most probably, you have already used this effect without even noticing. What Fortify does in Diablo 4 is act as a damage reduction tool. It is exclusive to Druids, Barbarians, and Necromancers. What it does is, at default, reduce your income damage by 10%. However, it is not as simple as it sounds.

If you wish to get the Fortify status in Diablo 4, you must first collect it. This can be done passively by certain Aspects or Legendary items and certain abilities exclusive to the classes mentioned above. This will generate an amount of Fortify that is visible in your Health Globe. It is represented as a lighter red that grows above your Health Globe. Fortify will only activate itself once your Health drops below the Fortify level. You will know it is active when you see armor surrounding your Health Globe.

While the 10% damage reduction could seem petty, it could mean the difference between life and death. Moreover, if you improve your armor by putting sapphires in its slots, you could see a dramatic increase in your Fortify damage reduction stat in Diablo 4. You could bump it to a 40% damage reduction, arguably a game-changer on its own.

Continue battling the enemies in Sanctuary and gain all the XP and gear you need to upgrade your class abilities and skills to get Fortify in Diablo 4. While this effect is helpful, it is wise to be careful when encountering powerful enemies and bosses. Damage reduction will often postpone your death if you are not cautious. Keep this in mind, and you will be able to survive the horrors of the Daughter of Hatred.

Diablo 4 is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Windows.
