A New Jersey woman asked TikTok to settle a vacation dispute after her husband forgot his sleep apnea machine and became upset when she asked him to sleep in another room. The couple has a standing rule for situations like this, but her husband reportedly felt she should still want to sleep beside him.
Posted to TikTok by @caleysvensson, the creator explained that her husband has severe sleep apnea and normally uses a sleep apnea machine at night. At home, she says the machine keeps him quiet enough that they can sleep normally.
The problem came during a family beach vacation, where the couple was staying in a crowded beach house with smaller beds and thin walls. While they were driving to the beach, her husband realized he had left his machine at home.
The New Jersey creator says they established a rule a few years ago that if he forgets the machine on vacation, he sleeps in another room. She says sharing a small bed without the machine leaves her awake throughout the night.
According to Caley, her husband was offended when she enforced the rule and told her that she should want to sleep with him because he is her husband. She responded that she does want to sleep with him, but physically cannot get a good night’s sleep when he doesn’t have his machine.
She asked viewers whether it was unreasonable to have him sleep separately for the week so they could both get some rest.
TikTok Sides With the Wife
Many commenters sided with the creator off the bat, questioning why her husband had forgotten the machine in the first place. “Actually if HE wanted to sleep with YOU he would have made it a priority to pack his sleep apnea machine,” one commenter wrote.
Another focused on the potential seriousness of his condition, asking, “How does he forget something that keeps him from dying in his sleep?” They added that the New Jersey creator was not wrong for wanting separate rooms.
Some viewers took the argument even further. “Girl he can leave the trip,” one person wrote, while another suggested, “Sleep in a different room? No sleep in a different house.”
Not everyone placed all the responsibility on the husband, however. One commenter argued that the situation should be treated as a shared problem within the marriage, suggesting the couple make sure the machine is packed before future trips.
Another offered a simpler solution: “You’re right. But one little suggestion… make a checklist for yourself to remind him to pack it for future trips.”
Couples have been arguing over each other’s choices since forever. Social media just gives everyone else a front-row seat, and TikTok had plenty to say about this one.
