Weakness Exploit is a skill in Monster Hunter World that you can utilize to deal extra damage to monsters. In order to obtain and use the Weakness Exploit skill, you’ll need to equip armor or a weapon with the skill already built in. You can also get the skill by equipping decorations with the Weakness Exploit skill, like the Tenderizer Jewel. With Weakness Exploit equipped, you will deal additional damage to monsters if you hit their weak spots, although there are a few key things to do to maximize the bonus.

Weakness Exploit in Monster Hunter World gives attacks that hit weak spots extra affinity, between 10% and 30% depending on the level of the skill. Affinity represents a percent chance an attack has of dealing additional damage. Most weapons start at zero affinity, but some have a small percentage built in. Some weapons even have negative affinity, which adds a percentage chance of dealing reduced damage.

In the case of Weakness Exploit, the added affinity only happens when hitting a weak spot on a monster. Weak spots vary from monster to monster, but areas like the legs, head, and tail are typically weak spots. If the damage number is bold when attacking a monster, that is a weak spot. There is also bonus affinity for attacking a weak spot that is wounded. You can wound a weak spot by using the Clutch Claw to attach to the spot and attacking it. The Clutch Claw is only available as part of the Iceborne expansion.

When everything is going right and you are dealing damage to a monster’s weak spot, Weakness Exploit will increase the chances of you dealing extra bonus damage via affinity, allowing you to maximize the amount of damage you can deal in a certain time frame. There are three levels to Weakness Exploit, with each level increasing the affinity percentage. If you only have low level decorations that add Weakness Exploit, adding multiple will get you to the higher levels. You cannot go above level 3, so any beyond that is wasted.

Monster Hunter World is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
