Not as long as you think

One of the highlights of Dying Light: The Beast is its revamped co-op mode, which, for the first time in many years, is completely seamless, easy to access, and most importantly, doesn’t take a lot of time to unlock. In other entries, creating a co-op session would take many hours, and by that time, many players preferred to continue on their single-player campaigns. Fortunately, that’s not the case anymore, as you can unlock co-op Dying Light: The Beast in a matter of minutes.

How Fast Can You Unlock Co-op in Dying Light: The Beast

You can unlock co-op in Dying Light: The Beast in around 1 hour or less. All you must do is complete the prologue up to the point where you unlock the Monastery Safe Zone and get the quest to either investigate the Town or the smoke. Just before you leave this area, you’ll get the pop-up on your screen that shows the co-op tutorial, which means you have finally unlocked it. If you want to know just how deep the co-op system goes, you can check our in-depth co-op guide here. But if you want a short summary, we can do that as well.

Here are a few key points of what you can and can’t do when playing co-op in Dying Light: The Beast.

  • Progression is shared by everyone as long as there’s a green icon on the quest list.
    • Guests who join a co-op session will see a green icon next to a mission, meaning that all the progress will carry over to your world.
  • Story progression won’t carry over if there’s a red icon on the quest list.
    • If a quest has a red icon, that means only the loot will carry over to your world, and you’ll have to do that story mission on your own.
  • You can invite players through the co-op menu or by sending out a Call for Help. This feature will allow players to find your session and let them drop in instantly.
  • There is a way to trade items in the game.
    • You can drop items and weapons on the ground, and other players can grab them, making it a pseudo trading system of sorts.
  • All loot is instanced.
    • It might not be a surprise for several veteran players, but all loot is personal, so there’s no need to argue for that legendary bottle of wine on the ground.

If you really want to unlock co-op as fast as possible, we recommend finishing the prologue quickly, and as soon as you get the task to restore the power to the Monastery, ignore the zombies outside the place and focus on the objectives. All of this should take you less than an hour.
