Discord, like many other gaming-oriented applications, does not simply serve its main purpose as a VOIP app and a pseudo-online forum. It is also littered with hidden features or jokes, known as easter eggs. Here’s how you can activate all the secret easter eggs in the Discord desktop app, web browser, and mobile version.
1. Discordo Audio Easter Egg
When you click the Discord logo 16 times, Discord will play a unique “Discordo” sound effect. Once this easter egg has been activated, the Discordo sound will play every time you boot up Discord; simply press the logo 16 times again to deactivate it. This can only be done on Discord’s web and desktop app. Try clicking more than 16 times again if you still haven’t heard it.
2. Play the User Leave Voice Channel Sound Effect
Meanwhile, if you click the home button 32 times, the sound effect when someone leaves a call or voice channel will play instead.
3. Copy Username-streak Announcement
Whenever you click on your username, move your mouse away, and click on it again, Discord will keep showing a new “Username copied” notification message. The last two “copy streak” notifications are displayed with a shaking red bubble:
- Copied!
- Double Copy!
- Triple Copy!
- Dominating!!
- Rampage!!
- Mega Copy!!
- Unstoppable!!
- Wicked Sick!!
- Monster Copy!!!
- GODLIKE!!!
- BEYOND GODLIKE!!!!
Again, this only works on Discord’s web and desktop app.
4. Secret AMOLED-Optimized Theme
Unlike the previous easter eggs, this one is a unique secret that can only be activated on the Discord Android app — unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work on the iOS version.
To unlock it, open the Appearance option in the App Settings menu. Then tap on the Dark settings 10 times. A new Experimental AMOLED Mode toggle will appear. Tap it to use the AMOLED theme.
5. Furiously Shaking Profile Page Pencil
In the desktop app, open the Edit Profile > User Profile menu and stay there for over 90 minutes. Look at the pencil icon above the Example Button button. It will be impatiently shaking itself, waiting for you to finish editing your profile. The longer you stay, the crankier it gets.
6. Wumpus Nitro Server Boost Confetti
Every time someone Boosted a server with Nitro, you can see a message with a Crystal next to it. Move your cursor to the Crystal, “rub it” with your cursor, and Wumpus will show up with a rain of confetti.
7. Thanksgiving Turkey
I really don't know how but… my emoji button turned into a chicken.
byu/Skylicr indiscordapp
For Discord users in the US, every year on Thanksgiving Day, the emoji button in the app will turn into a turkey. Users outside of the US can try using a VPN to participate in the festivities.
8. Unique Flair for New Accounts
If a user’s account is less than a week old, a flair with Wumpus saying, “I’m new to Discord, say hi!” wearing various accessories will appear when you click on their profile.
9. Unique Search Result Screen
On rare occasions, when your search results in the Discord app yield nothing, the app will show an “empathy banana” or a broken magnifying glass instead.
10. Street Fighter Akuma Raging Demon Discord Easter Egg
First, open the Keyboard Shortcut menu in the Discord desktop app for PC (CTRL key + / key) and Mac (Cmd key + / key). Scroll down to the last entry, and you will see the “Raging Demon” shortcut. Press the H, H, Right Arrow, N, K keys; your Discord screen will go black, be filled with hits effects, and the 天 Chinese/Japanese kanji will appear. Just like when you’re hit with Akuma’s famous Raging Demon move from Street Fighter.
11. Jet Set Radio Graffiti Soul Reference
The different Wumpus icon that appears when a Spotify Listening Party ends, or you fail to join one for not having Spotify Premium seems to be a reference to Graffiti Soul collectibles from the Jet Set Radio cult game created by SEGA.
12. Discord Discord Revolution Easter Egg
Speaking of games and references, on the Keyboard Shortcuts menu, you can play a rhythm minigame similar to the popular arcade title Dance Dance Revolution by pressing any of the four arrow keys on your keyboard.
13. 404 Snek Minigame
When you try to access any invalid link within Discord’s website, you will be redirected to the 404 page, indicating, well, the page you’re looking for no longer/does not exist. However, the 404 hides a minigame inside it. Click on the green snake sign in front of the store picture, and you can play the Snek minigame.
14. Human.txt
Almost all websites that want to be crawled or indexed by search engines like Google will have a robots.txt file. However, the Discord website also has a human.txt file, a spoof of the popular “human vs robot” trope.
15. Discord Printer Redirect
Opening the printer.discord.com link will redirect you to a music video from VidKids, an old Canadian TV show called Computer Man. Silliness aside, the song is pretty catchy, and the guy in the video has some moves.
16. Rate Limit Easter Egg
If you’re not a Discord bot developer, I doubt you will ever need to open the Discord API documentation page. However, that page hides another easter egg. Look for the “Note that normal route rate-limiting headers will also be sent in this response. The rate-limiting response will look something like the following:” sentence — you can see the colon at the end is colored blue, indicating a link to another page.
When you click the colon, you will be redirected to a “ratelimit” page, showing a cat being shot out into space in a rocket ship. You can play around the page and change the music or background image by clicking the text. Rate limit refers to how a server can limit the “rate” of a client requesting access to the server or website to protect it from Denial-of-service-attack or content scraping.
Retired Discord Easter Eggs
List of Discord easter eggs that can no longer be activated through normal means.
1. Flashlight Mode
The opposite of the AMOLED Mode. On the phone app, click the Light theme six times, and your screen will turn blank and turns on your phone’s flashlight with a message that reads, “When Light theme isn’t enough!”
2. Discord is Judging Your Username
Back then, if you use a username that is longer than 32 characters and composed of something weird like a set of emojis, the Edit button would turn into a judging face emoticon (ಠ_ಠ).
3. Dubstep Call Ringtone
There used to be a dubstep remix of the usual ringtone with only a 0.01% chance of appearing.
4. Super Mario ? Box and Green Vials Easter Eggs
In the old version of the Discord home page, there used to be a box with “?” on it. When you click it, items from Super Mario Bros. games, such as mushrooms and coins, will appear. There is also a vial of green liquid that, when clicked, will shoot out bubbles. Thankfully, you can still see them in action using Wayback Machine.
5. Rickroll Discord Thread
Again, another old feature from the Discord website. If you click on a dis.gd/threads link, you used to be redirected to the popular Never Gonna Give You Up music video from artist Rick Astley. Like the Mario easter egg, Wayback Machine comes to the rescue.
The voice chat application Discord is available on Android, iOS, and PC.
