Discord is the current number one VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) program amongst gamers and tech users. Nevertheless, with high traffic load also comes many server issues. The “Bad Network Request Error”, for example, indicates trouble connecting to the server. If you encounter the “Bad Network Request Error” message on Discord, here are a few ways to fix it.
1. Restart Discord and/or Your PC or Mobile Device
Restarting the Discord app should force it to re-download any missing updates on start-up and make a new connection to the servers. An outdated version of Discord could give the app performance and stability issues. If that doesn’t help, try restarting your computer, Android, or iOS devices to reset all of your programs and remove any faulty settings or temporary files that might be interfering with your connection.
2. Check Discord Social Media Page
Usually, the “Bad Network Request” error message will pop up when Discord’s servers are down or during an API outage, making users unable to send or receive messages. For that reason, always keep an eye on Discord’s official Twitter account or Support Page. There are also third-party trackers like @OutageDiscord that will let you know in case there are server issues.
We are currently investigating a widespread API outage and are working to resolve this ASAP. More details on our status page: https://t.co/rq97JXB3gV pic.twitter.com/6tRWTf7QqM

3. Check Your Internet Settings
Virtually all audio and video chat programs are made to function properly with a good internet connection. Check to see whether there are too many users using the same network or if you have enough bandwidth. If so, you should either restrict the number of WiFi users or switch to a wired connection. Personally, I always go with wired if I can.
4. Turn On/Off Your VPN
If your default connection is having trouble connecting to the Discord server, you can try using a VPN to connect to a different server location. But if you already use a VPN, try switching it off. Doing one of them might fix the “Bad Network Request Error” message on your Discord.
5. Make Sure Antivirus or Firewall is Not Blocking Discord
Add the Discord executable to your antivirus’s whitelist so your antivirus won’t interfere with the app’s connection. And to make sure your firewall isn’t blocking the app:
- Open Windows Start menu, search for Firewall or Windows Defender Firewall
- Pick the Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall
- Look for Discord and check both boxes. Click OK
- If you can’t find it, click the Allow another app button, go to your Discord installation directory, and click on the Discord.exe. Check both boxes again.
