If you’re sailing the high seas in Rare’s Sea of Thieves, the best way to do it is with friends as you explore the uncharted waters in the open-world adventure. But adding friends in the first place isn’t as simple as it might seem. Sea of Thieves doesn’t make it too clear how you’re supposed to add friends or manage an open crew. But fear not; we’ll tell you exactly what to do to add friends in Sea of Thieves, regardless of which platform you’re playing on.
How To Add Friends In Sea of Thieves
Before you can add friends in-game to play with, you must perform the following to add them via the Xbox App on Windows 10 if you are on a PC.
- Open the Xbox App.
- In the Friends section, find the “Add Friend” button.
- There, you can write the username of the person you want to add, and then you’re done.
Keep in mind that both players who want to invite each other need to be added as friends; it won’t work if only one of you adds another person as a friend without them accepting the friend request. If you want to make friends while playing, just option the radial menu and select the “make friends” option.
Now, you can start Sea of Thieves, and after the ship has been selected along with the size of the crew, the option to invite 1 to 3 friends will show up. And if you leave any slots empty, they will be filled by random players via matchmaking.
What Is An Open Crew In Sea Of Thieves? Is It Better Than Friends?
An open crew is when the matchmaking system picks players close to you or in your region and forms a crew. The good thing about this is that even if you don’t have any friends in the game, you’ll have the opportunity to meet new players and add them to your list.
But playing with friends means that you can all coordinate and work together better than random players.
