In Dave the Diver, you’ll encounter a Giant Gadon boss fight as you attempt to leave the Glacial Passage. As Tenzhin explains, the Gadons are part of the darker history of the Sea People. From various experiments, they became twisted and violent. The regular Gadons are avoidable as long as you hide. If they find you, you’re dead since you can’t fight them. However, you will stumble across the Giant Gadon, and all you can hope for is to escape.
Giant Gadon Fight in Dave the Diver
The Giant Gadon fight in Dave the Diver isn’t like other boss battles. That’s because it’s not a real fight with weapons. Dave is just trying his best to escape to live another day. But it’s an easy encounter to lose if you’re not careful.
You won’t see the Giant Gadon until you reach Chapter 5 in the game. It will happen after you find the Glacial Passage key and run into the first batch of regular-sized Gadons. Once you are past that portion, you will travel through the Glacial Passage. After you finish the mirror puzzle and swim to the Divine Tree Fruit, you will see the hulking and terrifying Giant Gadon.
Now it’s all about escaping the Giant Gadon in Dave the Diver. As it pursues you, keep dodging. There are two dangerous things you must look out for as you swim:
- Ice spikes
- The Giant Gadon’s hand
There are ice spikes on the floor and ceiling. If you run into them, they will slow you down. One grab from the Giant Gadon is all it takes to kill you and force you to restart the segment. Remember that the Giant Gadon can also slam the ground and knock ice spikes down.
As for his hand, you will know when the Giant Gadon is ready to grab when he lifts either hand. So, keep an eye on his hand so you’re prepared to dodge out of the way.
How To Stun Giant Gadon in Dave The Diver
As you’re swimming, you’ll eventually reach a brief cutscene with the Divine Tree Fruit. We know Gadons hate light. So, swim to the Divine Tree Fruit to stun the Giant Gadon. It’s a QTE. So, when you see the mouse icon appear, click it at once. If you miss, the Giant Gadon will catch and kill you.
Thankfully, you only have to do this part one time. Once the creature is stunned, you can swim until you reach a dead end. The Giant Gadon will catch up to Dave, but he will knock himself out and open a new path for you.
Now, we swim downward and prepare for yet another chase. Avoid more of the ice spikes on either side of you. Most of the portion consists of dodging again until you get another cutscene as the Giant Gadon falls unconscious again.
Eventually, you’ll swim past more ice obstacles and get to a different QTE to dodge the Giant Gadon’s grabs. You will likely press “Q” and then “E” for the QTEs. Successfully hitting them will end the chase as you escape through another passageway.
From here, you will remove the nearby stake to drop the rocks and block off the Giant Gadon in Dave the Diver. Suwam will yank you back in a cutscene just before the Giant Gadon can grab you, and you have now “won” the fight.
