After leaving the capital city, you can arrive at a new town called Martira. While the main mission will lead you to another area, you can also take another bounty to increase your fame and get money. Goborn King is an optional boss you can fight in Metaphor: ReFantazio. To fight it, you have to travel to the Goblin’s Nest on the eastern side of the city. Before you can face this powerful monster, you need to defeat other enemies first to draw it out.

Goborn King will only appear after you have defeated several Goborn Mages in Metaphor: ReFantazio. These mages wear black cloaks, so it should be easy to notice them. Once you kill enough of them, the boss will show up at your location. This enemy is quite challenging since it will be accompanied by several enemies.

To make matters worse, none of them have any weaknesses. However, they are quite susceptible to sleep. You can inflict this status ailment using the Slumberthorn consumable, which costs 90 Gold. If you have unlocked the Gunner class, you should have one of your party members use this Archetype since it has the Sleep Shot ability. You can get this new class by completing Neuras’ request, where he asks you to visit a nearby village.

Here is the team comp that I recommend to beat Goborn King:

  • Protagonist: Seeker
  • Strohl: Warrior
  • Hulkenberg: Gunner

Best Strategy

Although you may feel tempted to use magic users, I don’t recommend bringing these classes to fight Goborn King. Goborn monsters are extremely wary against staff and maces. If you use a class with this weapon, they may become berserk. However, I suggest inheriting the skills to remove status ailment and debuff from the Healer Archetype. These monsters can inflict these negative effects on your party and buff themselves.

At the start of the battle, you should prioritize taking out the Goborn Mage first. This monster can use elemental magic. If you are using the Seeker class, then the protagonist will be weak against fire. This won’t be ideal since the enemy can gain an extra turn.

Order your Gunner to put the other enemies to sleep so you can focus on the Goborn Mage. Note that the Goborn King is not vulnerable to the sleep status effect, so don’t bother shooting it. You may want to try Poison Shot, though, since it can inflict damage over time. Once the Goborn Mage is eliminated, you can turn your attention to the other mobs.

Unfortunately, once you eliminate its allies, the Goborn King will buff its ATK and AGI. This buff will make it hard for you to land a hit, prolonging the battle. I don’t think there is any skill at this point in time that allows you to strip away buffs from your enemies. So, you can only keep attacking until it’s dead.
