Though this fiery opponent presents a challenge, nothing is stopping you from taking it down, especially if you’re willing to use some unorthodox tactics. It’s a tanky opponent with a big health pool and the ability to regenerate, so even veterans of other Larian games might not want to face it in a straight-up fight. Where To Find Lava Elemental in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Lava Elemental is located in the Underdark in BG3, specifically the Grymforge. If you have the Harper Stash quest, you will likely encounter this monster on your way. If you don’t want to leave anything to chance, the exact coordinates of the Lava Elemental’s location are X: -595, Y: 215.
Lava Elemental Strengths & Weaknesses
With a large health pool and the ability to regenerate, the Lava Elemental is a powerful foe compared to a boss like Gerringothe Thorm. Lava Elemental’s strength in BG3 reveals itself when the boss starts the round in lava. Thanks to its Magmatic Regeneration ability, the boss regains 10d6 hit points every round that starts this way. You have to lure the boss out of those healing flames or otherwise negate its regeneration, otherwise you’re in for a deadly fight.
Lava Elemental’s weak point is, as you can guess, Cold. Using Frost abilities, you can deal extremely high damage to this fire-loving boss. It also has a weakness to throwing things from a distance. Immune to Fire, Lava Elemental is also resistant to Poison, so pay attention to damage types before deciding which attack to launch.
How To Defeat Lava Elemental the Easy Way
If you want to fight the Lava Elemental fairly, your best bet is to use characters with lots of Frost damage. Using a spell that deals Cold damage, such as Ray of Frost, is also useful for reducing the boss’s movement speed and keeping it from reaching you. If you want to know how to beat the Lava Elemental even more easily, it’s a simple process. All you need is a spellcaster with access to the Thunderwave spell.
Thunderwave sends out a sound wave that pushes all your enemies backward. You can probably guess where this is going. Start by luring the Lava Elemental to one of the pillars with a cliff behind it. When it gets close, use an ability like Misty Step to position your spellcaster behind the Lava Elemental. Then use Thunderwave to send the Lava Elemental over the cliff.
