When you first encounter Rella, she is introduced as the kind saint who helps everyone equally. Yet, as you start to unravel the truth behind the prince’s curse, you discover that the caster is actually Rella. With Forden being dead, the Sanctist Church has ordered the woman to fight in the succession tournament. Although she does not want power, she cannot allow your group to win without testing your mettle. Instead of fighting herself, Rella will summon Sogne The Icebound dragon to fight for her in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Sogne The Icebound Boss Fight Guide
Sogne The Icebound boss fight is divided into two phases in Metaphor: ReFantazio. During the first phase, you need to deal with Rella and the dragon together. The big problem is that you cannot attack the woman directly and can only hit the dragon. The monster is vulnerable to fire magic, so I suggest spamming this attack at the beginning. Unfortunately, this won’t last long since Rella will create a magic shield to protect the dragon.
During the first phase, I highly recommend using pure physical attack once the magic shield is raised. Of course, you can use abilities that remove the barrier but Rella will only raise another one. You will only waste your MP using this tactic. It’s better to use physical abilities to take down the dragon.
After you have reduced the first health bar, the second phase of the Sogne boss fight will start. Rella will sacrifice her own life force to heal the dragon and you need to deal with the monster again. Luckily, with the mage being out of commission, you can unleash all the fire magic you want. You can also dish out some debuffs since Rella can no longer remove the negative status effects.
Of course, Sogne will put up a fight. This monster will use ice attacks that can inflict Frostbite. This negative status effect will greatly reduce your Attack and prevent the affected member from changing places with the backup. You can use Heartwarmer or cast Patra magic to remove this effect. Another way to deal with it is by equipping the Pocket Heater accessories.
Attack | Description |
---|---|
Iceclaw Slash | Single-target slash attack that can inflict Frostbite. |
Tail Swipe | Team-wide physical attack. |
Icy Breath | Team-wide Ice attack. |
Roar | Temporarily reduces all of your stats. |
While Rella will mostly play support for Sogne, the mage will sometimes use offensive magic. It is best to avoid using Archetypes that are weak against Light attacks. So, bringing Basilio into this fight is not wise if he has the Berserker class.
Attack | Description |
---|---|
Quartz Wall | Erects a magic barrier that stops magic attacks. |
Tarukaja | Buff the dragon’s attack. |
Exorcist Light | Single-target Light magic attack. |
Mahamaon | Team-wide Light magic attack. |
Megidola | Team-wide Almighty magic attack. |
Best Team Comp
Since the first phase requires physical attacks and the second phase needs magic attacks, you will need a well-rounded team to beat Sogne. Having a Healer on your team is a must since you need to use Patra and other HP recovery skills. Besides that, you need to
- Protagonist: Healer
- Strohl: Knight
- Hulkenberg: Mage
- Heismay: Sniper
- Junah: Masked Dancer
- Eupha: Summoner
- Basilio: Brawler
During the first phase, you can bring the Protagonist, Strohl, Basilio, and Heismay. While the protagonist focuses on healing, the rest of the team will be on the offensive. These three characters are meant to be physical damage dealers so their stats reflect that. Technically, Hulkenberg is also quite good at this but someone needs to be a Mage and she’s quite decent at it.
Once the second phase begins, you can switch your party members, except for the protagonist, with the backups. Masked Dancer can use the Infernal Vortex ability to inflict fire damage, on the other hand, Eupha can use the Summon Dragon God skill to deal damage.
