Vampirism is awesome. You get bitten by some pale dude, have a sudden thirst for blood, and look really hot doing it. Vampires are no stranger to The Elder Scrolls franchise, especially in the newest The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. In fact, you can become a vampire pretty early on in your journey through Cyrodiil. Are you ready to become a child of the night?

The easiest way I’ve found to become a vampire in any version of Oblivion is to:

  1. Head over to the Imperial City, specifically the Elven Gardens District.
  2. Locate a sewer grate and go inside.
  3. You’ll need to maneuver through the sewer until you come across Beneath the Bloodworks.
    • That’s quite literally the name of the area.
  4. Inside, you’ll face plenty of vampires who can bite and infect you with Porphyric Hemophilia.
  5. Make your way out of the sewer and locate any bed that isn’t owned by anyone else.
  6. Sleep for three days straight until you get a screen that notifies you of your vampirism.

Now that you’re a vampire, there are a few important things to know. You cannot be outside during the daytime, so check out what time it is before you step foot under the blazing sun. You will also need to feed, lest people will find you a bit too pale and monstrous to interact with you (I’ve learned through experience). You can only feed when a person is asleep. No need to worry about them calling authorities, you can feed and get on with your day.

Every Way to Become a Vampire

There are a few other ways to become a vampires, such as doing the exact same things as above, but in any of these locations on the map:

  • Barren Cave – West of Cheydinhal.
  • Bloodcrust Cavern – Southeast of Skingrad.
  • Crowhaven – Northwest of Anvil.
  • Fort Carmala – South of Chorrol.
  • Fort Hastrel – Northwest of Kvatch.
  • Fort Naso – Northeast of Drakelowe.
  • Fort Redman – North of Leyawiin.
  • Fort Redwater – East of Panther River.
  • Fort Valastarus – East of Skingrad.
  • Jakben Imbel’s House – Imperial City Talos Plaza District.
  • Lipsan Tarn – North of Chorrol.
  • Memorial Cave – Southeast of Imperial City.
  • Ninendava – West of Bruma.

You can also join the Dark Brotherhood and complete the quest Darkness Eternal to become a vampire.

Stages of Vampirism

After becoming a vampire, there are four stages you’ll go through. They are:

StageEffects
Stage 1 – 25%– 20% Weakness to Fire.
– Hunter’s Sight.
– +5 Strength, Willpower, Speed, Acrobatics, Destruction, Hand to Hand, Illusion, and Sneak.
– 5% resistance to normal weapons.
Stage 2 – 50%– 30% Weakness to Fire.
– Lose 1 HP per second in Sunlight Damage.
– Vampire’s Seduction.
– +10 Strength, Willpower, Speed, Acrobatics, Destruction, Hand to Hand, Illusion, and Sneak.
– 10% resistance to normal weapons.
Stage 3 – 75%– 40% Weakness to Fire.
– Lose 5 HP per second in Sunlight Damage.
– Reign of Terror.
– +15 Strength, Willpower, Speed, Acrobatics, Destruction, Hand to Hand, Illusion, and Sneak.
– 15% resistance to normal weapons.
Stage 4 – 100%– 50% Weakness to Fire.
– Lose 8 HP per second in Sunlight Damage.
– Embrace of Shadows.
– +20 Strength, Willpower, Speed, Acrobatics, Destruction, Hand to Hand, Illusion, and Sneak.
– 20% resistance to normal weapons.

How to Remove Vampirism

If you decide that being a vampire isn’t for you, you can remove it. Shocking, right? You will need to speak with Raminus Polus at the Arcane University to start the Vampire Cure quest. By the end of the quest, you’ll have the cure.
