How to Change Difficulty
To change the difficulty of your game, you will have to head to a hub that holds a World Tier Statue. Using the World Tier Statue, you can change your difficulty in Diablo 4. You can also change your difficulty through the Character Selection menu.
Diablo 4 Difficulties
There are four different tiers of difficulty that you can play on in Diablo 4. You can learn more about them below.
Tier 1
Tier 1 is the first level of difficulty in Diablo 4. Considered the Adventure Tier, Tier 1 is the way to go if you haven’t had much experience in the Diablo franchise or you want to take it easy and enjoy the game’s campaign. The levels for this tier are 1-50, and the enemies are relatively easy to take down. Playing through the game on Tier 1 difficulty won’t give you much of a challenge, but is great for speed runs.
Tier 2
Tier 2, considered the Veteran Tier, is recommended for players who want a relaxed style of gameplay but want a little more of a challenge. Recommended for levels 1-50, you have the chance to obtain more experience and gold while playing in Tier 2. Monsters will reward you with 20% more Experience and 15% more Gold when they are defeated.
Tier 3
Tier 3, or the Nightmare Tier, is for players who want much more of a challenge and have a decent amount of experience with the Diablo franchise. Though, if you’re wanting to play the Nightmare Tier Diablo 4 difficulty, you’ll have to complete the campaign, along with Cathedral of Light, while playing in Tier 2 difficulty.
Though, with Nightmare Tier, there are several benefits. You can now obtain both Sacred and Unique items as enemy drops. Nightmare Dungeons can now be unsealed with Nightmare Sigils that drop. You can now find Hillsides and Champion monsters with damage resistance auras.
Additionally, monsters give 100% more Experience, drop 15% more Gold, and overcome 20% Resistance.
Tier 4
Torment, or Tier 4 difficulty, is the highest difficulty you can unlock and use. Torment is recommended for experienced players looking to challenge themselves throughout the campaign in Diablo 4 with the highest difficulty. Torment is recommended for levels 70+ and has to be unlocked by playing through the campaign on Nightmare difficulty.
In Torment difficulty, you can obtain new Unique items and Ancestral items. Additionally, enemies are much stronger and give 200% extra Experience, drop 15% more Gold, and overcome 40% Resistance.
