If you want a sturdy shield made from pure Zonaite, consider clearing “Combat Training: Shields” of Eshos Shrine in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. As its name implies, this Combat Training pits you against Construct with ranged attacks, and your goal is to deflect their projectiles. If you’ve played the renowned Souls-like Elden Ring, you should be familiar with the high-risk-reward parry mechanic. Similarly, you need to perform a comparable move called a “Perfect Guard.” If you manage to parry at the right time, any enemy projectiles will be repelled back in their direction.
Where to Find the Eshos Shrine Location in Tears of the Kingdom
Sometimes mispronounced “Eso Shrine” in TotK, Eshos Shrine is located in the West Necluda region. If you are traveling from the north Sahasra Slope, you must travel southward to Dueling Peaks, the mountains split by the gorge of Squabble River. After arriving at the northern peak, investigate the sloping shelves to the west overlooking Big Twin Bridge. You should eventually encounter Eshos Shrine in TotK around the area.
How To Complete Combat Training: Shields in TotK of Eshos Shrine
After you’ve entered the combat Shrine, an enemy Construct will activate, ready for battle. At this moment, Shrine guides you by providing an explanation of what you are to and how you can deflect projectiles. To perform a Perfect Guard during “Combat Training: Shields” in TotK, you must:
- Ready your shield with the ZL trigger.
- Tap the A Button right when the enemy’s projectile strikes your shield to parry the attack.
If you’ve entered the “Combat Training: Shields” Shrine, you needn’t fret. On the left side of the chamber, you’ll find a stand with wooden shields and metal shields free for the taking. Equip one, and ready yourself against the active Construct.
Here are the steps we recommend for completing the Shrine’s challenge:
- Lock on the target and hold ZL.
- Wait until the projectile from the enemy attack is less than a foot away from Link.
- Press A, and a blue light should flash, causing the projectile to be reflected back at the Construct.
If you’re struggling in Eshos Shrine, sidestep the incoming projectiles until you get the hang of the timing with a Perfect Guard. Keeping a good distance between you and your opponent also grants you more time to plan out your reaction.
After you’ve successfully completed the first part of Eshos Shrine TotK, a second Construct will emerge from the floor. Taking things slowly, remember not to panic and sidestep whenever you’re not confident you can perform a Perfect Guard. Take out each Construct one at a time, using the distance in Eshos Shrine between your foes as an advantage.
Once the “Combat Training: Shields” is over, you can enter the final room of the Eshos Shrine TotK and receive your rewards. The Treasure Chest of Eshos Shrine will contain Mighty Zonaite Shield, and the Light of Blessing can be acquired from the altar.
