How to Complete Hel to Pay in God of War Ragnarok

After Atreus unleashed Garm, both Kratos and his boy have to fix their mistakes by closing the Hel-Tear portals that Garm opened throughout the Nine Realms. This guide will help you find all those Hel-Tears and complete the “Hel to Pay” Favour in GOW: Ragnarok.

GOW Ragnarok: Hel to Pay Objective and Rewards

The “Hel to Pay” Favour tasks you with finding all Hel-Tears and closing them by approaching the Tears and pressing Square. Freya or Atreus will then try closing the Tear while Atreus or Kratos has to fend off the waves of Hel-Walkers that keep coming out of the portal.

- Kratos: 4,500 XP
- Atreus: 1,125 XP

- Essence of Hel
- Frozen Spark

Helheim Hel-Tear Locations

The first Hel-Tear you will encounter is the one at Sindri’s House, which Freya will close during “Main Mission 12: Reunion.” And then the second is the optional Hel-Tear that unlocks the “Hel to Pay” Favour Side Quest. You should be able to find it in The Gleaming Bale area, directly on your path as you progress through Main Mission 12.

Svartalfheim Hel-Tear Location

How to Complete Hel to Pay in God of War Ragnarok

The second Hel-Tear in GOW Ragnarok is on the right side shore of the Aurvangar Wetlands, close to the waterwheel that you moved at the beginning. Reach the location with a boat and then climb over the scaffolding.

Alfheim Hel-Tear Location

The Alfheim Hel-Tear is at The Strond, close to the Temple of Light, south of The Strong Mystic Gateway.

Midgard Hel-Tear Location

In the northwestern area of Midgard, on your way back to the Well of Norn, you can get to the Well of Urd to find another Hel-Tear. It’s on top of the cliffside leading into the Well of Urd.

Vanaheim Hel-Tear Location

The last Hel-Tear is at the entrance of the Mystic Gateway in The Southern Wilds, Vanaheim. It shouldn’t be hard to miss. If you need more details, you can watch WoW Quest’s GOW Ragnarok “Hel to Pay” Favour video walkthrough below.
