To accept The Abandoned Laborer side quest, you must start or complete the Yunobo of Goron City quest line. Next, head to the northwest corner of Death Mountain in the Eldin region. Climb up some rocky ledges and reach the Death Mountain West Tunnel entrance. Go inside and use the Paraglider to fly across the lava chasm.

Inside the cave on the other side of the lava chasm, you will encounter the NPC Mota, which sadly eats a piece of meat. The rails broke while he worked in a cave, and now he is abandoned. To complete The Abandoned Laborer side quest in Tears of the Kingdom, you must help Mota jump over the lava and get out. Here’s how to do it.

  • After talking to Mota, you notice an overturned cart near the rails. Use Ultrahand to grab the cart and place it on the rails.
  • Next, talk to Mota again and ask him to sit in the cart.
  • Approach the strange wall in the far part of the cave and use Yunobo or Sage of Fire Yunobo to blow up the wall. Perhaps you can also use arrows with the Bomb Flower, but we haven’t tested this method.
  • In the back cave room, you can pick up two Rockets and stick them to the cart using the Ultrahand ability.
  • Hit the rockets to activate them and force the cart with the Mota will fly out of the cave.
  • An alternative solution to the previous step would be to use Yunobo. Get behind the cart and use Yunobo’s power to create an explosion and push the cart out of the cave. In this case, you won’t have to use Rockets.
  • Exit the cave and talk to Mota. He will thank you for your help, after which you will complete The Abandoned Laborer side quest.

You will receive a Large Zonai Charge as a reward for your help, which will surely come in handy as you progress through the game.

Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
