Getting to Count Ymir in Elden Ring was already quite the journey, but maybe you’re willing to go a little further. You should because he has an entire questline associated with him involving the sounding of bells. It’s very reminiscent of the Bells of Awakening in Dark Souls, so if this isn’t your first FromSoftware game, it’ll feel familiar. Count Ymir’s questline is definitely worth doing in Elden Ring if you either run a strength or caster build, thanks to the new staves and colossal weapon you can get at the end. Before you continue, be sure to have explored Shadow Keep first!
Elden Ring Ymir Questline: How to Find Finger Ruins of Rhia
Up first are the Finger Ruins of Rhia, located east of where you spawn into the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. There’s a roundabout way of getting there by following the Ellac River, down to the Cerulean Coast. We’re starting from the Castle Front Site of Grace, just before you get to the Shadow Keep.
From the Site of Grace, head southeast, down the hill into a poisonous swamp area. You’re then going to travel north, hugging the mountains to your left until you come to a fresh, non-poisonous pond and a cave, guarded by a giant, poisonous plant. Enter the cave and it’ll lead you straight to the Ellac River.
Now that the hard part is over, you can more or less make a beeline for the Cerulean Coast Site of Grace. Follow the Ellac River south, grabbing the Site of Grace along the way, until you come across a Furnace Golem. You don’t have to fight it; instead, ride past it while hugging the mountains to the right to find a large opening. Head on through to find the Cerulean Coast Site of Grace.
It’s smooth sailing from here, folks. Ride south through the field of blue flowers until you reach the coast, then climb some rubble to find a beach. Beware of the dragon, though! Keep following the coast and it’ll lead you straight to another pile of rubble for you to climb. You have now reached the Finger Ruins of Rhia!
As soon as you enter, grab the Site of Grace and descend deeper into the ruins. You want to use the ramp to your right, as you come in; it’ll take you to flatter land. Once you reach the bottom, head directly north to where the fingers converge.
It’s there you’ll have to kiss the finger in the middle to sound the hanging bell. Return to Count Ymir and he’ll award you the Beloved Stardust Talisman, which is a decent item for casters.
Elden Ring Ymir Questline: How to Find Finger Ruins of Dheo
Before we can gallop on over to the Finger Ruins of Dheo, we need to make a slight detour to Bonny Village. So, backtrack to the Bonny Village Site of Grace and head to the marked location at the northern edge of the village. What you’ll find there is a tree and a corpse containing the “O Mother” gesture.
You see, there’s a secret path that leads from the Shadow Keep to the Finger Ruins of Dheo, but you’ll need the O Mother gesture to access the hidden path. The good news is the Back Gate Site of Grace in the Shadow Keep is right next to the secret entrance to Scaduview.
So, fast travel to the Shadow Keep’s Back Gate Site of Grace and enter the room with the statue of Marika. While standing right in front of it, perform the O Mother gesture and access to Scaduview is yours.
Here’s the good news: the path to the Finger Ruins of Dheo is a straight shot. It’ll lead you straight to the next hanging bell, just like before. Here’s the bad news: this area is a bit of a gauntlet, but you can ignore it all with Torrent.
I suggest riding along the edges of the area to avoid most of the wormfaces, especially the ones that fire the pink missiles that stun.
Returning to Count Ymir in Elden Ring will net you… nothing! Well, he’ll have more sorceries to learn, so if you haven’t learned those yet, do so now. It won’t be long before they’re no longer accessible because you’ll have to fight Count Ymir shortly.
Elden Ring Ymir Questline: How to Find Finger Ruins of Miyr
Now onto the last and final destination: the Finger Ruins of Miyr. To find them, you’ll have to examine Count Ymir’s throne. The problem is you can’t do that when he’s sitting there, but we can fix that. Simply rest at the nearest Site of Grace, choose to pass the time, and Ymir will disappear. Once you examine Ymir’s throne, a hidden ladder will be revealed, leading straight to the Finger Ruins of Miyr. Before you move on, be sure to make preparations because you’ll have to:
- Defeat the invader Swordhand of Night Anna.
- Sound the hanging bell.
- Defeat the boss Mityr, Mother of Fingers.
- Defeat the invader Swordhand of Night Jolan.
- Finally, defeat Count Ymir himself, only he’ll be Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers.
Anna will appear just before you reach the last hanging bell. Sounding the bell will transport you to Mityr and returning to the cathedral will summon both Jolan and Count Ymir, but not together. Once Count Ymir is dead in Elden Ring, that’s it—the questline is over!
For your efforts, you’ll receive Count Ymir’s armor set, the Maternal Staff, and Ymir’s Bell Bearing. As a bonus, if you visit the nearby graveyard, you’ll find the Cherishing Fingers spell next to one of the headstones.
