Despite its size and look, Ajarakan is one of the fastest and most destructive creatures in Monster Hunter Wilds. It combines quick attacks with Blastblight moves and other ridiculous combos that will make this a fight you’ll either remember due to how epic it is or how annoying it is to defeat the monster. If you’re part of the latter and struggling to beat this foe, we’ve gathered a few tips on how to take it down.
Ajarakan Weaknesses

As you might already imagine, Ajarakan is one fiery foe in Monster Hunter Wilds, which means that only two elements will cool this monster off. It will also be a tough fight because status effects are only somewhat effective against it, so you’re better off trying to use elemental attacks. Fortunately, its weak points aren’t too hard to hit, so you’ll be able to break a few parts off once you get the hang of this creature’s combos. For elemental attacks, bring the following:
- Water
- Ice
By now, you should have access to both elements. If not, we recommend fighting Uth Duna or Hirabami to farm materials for Water and Ice-infused weapons. We don’t really recommend bringing any armaments with status effects, as they are not too effective.
In terms of its weak points, you need to aim at its arms. These parts are the ones that will receive the most damage, followed by the monster’s back and tail, which can also be severed. Luckily, there are many environmental elements you can use when fighting Ajarakan, but we’ll go over those in the strategies section.
Hunt Strategy

Before taking down this monster, let’s talk preparation. Before you even approach, be sure to bring Cool Drinks or consume any of the Chillbugs around the area. The heat of this monster and the area will affect you, so you need to keep an eye on your temperature at all times. Aside from that, bring a few Nullberries in case you get afflicted with Blastblight or other status effects. After that, it’s time to follow these tips:
- Use the forge to damage Ajarakan.
- This will likely depend on the fight, but most of the time, Ajarakan will move next to a forge, which is a round arena of sorts. You can aim at the top of it with your slinger, and if timed right, it’ll spring a trap that will knock Ajarakan down and cause a lot of damage. You can only do this a few times since the forge has a long cooldown. However, when you’re able to activate it, go ahead and do it. You can place a shock trap to keep the monster in place and use the trap more effectively.
- Mounting it and attacking its back is a good strategy.
- Due to the area’s environment, doing jumping attacks that let you mount Ajarakan is a good idea. Since its back is breakable and actually transforms when it becomes angered, breaking it should be a priority. To do so, you can mount the creature and hit its back until you can perform a draw finisher. Ranged hunters will have an easier time with this, though.
- You can use Watermoss to cool the monster off.
- We saw that shooting Ajarakan with Watermoss shortened its angered state, so that’s also something you should watch out for. Whenever you see Watermoss on the map, equip it, but save it until Ajarakan becomes angered.
Overall, the fight isn’t too complicated, but you still need to watch out for some moves. One of the most devastating ones is when it slams the ground with its shoulder and then moves a bit to the front, creating an explosion. Be careful with this one because dodging the slam will still leave a Blatstblight trail that can affect you. Whenever he hits the ground with anything, dodge and then go back in to hit it. Beyond that, offset attacks and power clashes are easy to pull off here since the creature’s movement is easy to learn.
