If the Monster Hunter World community had to come together to mention one of the most annoying and challenging creatures in the game, they would agree with Bazelgeuse being on top of the list. This monster that debuts once you reach High Rank will cart you several times if you’re unprepared. With fast movement, diving attacks, and many explosions, you’ll wish you stayed in Low Rank. However, with a few tips and patience, you can take this B-2 bomber creature down in no time.
Monster Hunter World: Bazelgeuse Guide
The iconic bomber flying wyvern will appear once you reach High Rank. The queue to spot Bazelgeuse is the dramatic music and the probability of ten bombs falling down on you, making it one of the most stressful fights in MHW. Thankfully, if you know its weaknesses and where to hit it, you can take it down fast enough, provided there are no other monsters around to give you a harder time.
Bazelgeuse Weaknesses
Bazelgeuse is weak to Ice, Dragon, and Thunder, meaning any infused weapon with these elements is ideal. Depending on the area you find it, you might have other endemic life support to make its hunt easier. When hunting it, avoid using anything with Fire, as this creature is resistant to it.
Hunting Bazelgeuse
Contrary to Low-Rank creatures, this monster will hardly ever be in a static position. It’ll fly around whatever map you’re at, and if it spots you, it’ll dive toward you. The best way to engage it is by following it until it lands and sneak to get a few hits before it roars. Once the fight begins, you’ll see any of the following moves:
- Headbutt with explosions: This is one of the most common and annoying moves. Bazelgeuse will lower its head and charge at you. Once it lands, it’ll fall down and drop some of its scales, which explode at that moment. The easiest way to avoid this attack is by running far from it. Be careful of just dodging the headbutt because the explosions can still get you.
- Explosive scales: When not enraged, Bazelgeuse will drop scales on the ground that will only trigger if they are hit. They look like black eggs on the ground with some smoke coming from them. If you see them, run away and wait for the monster to reposition closer to you.
- Sweep attack: Another attack that can take a huge chunk of your HP is its sweep attack. It does it with its tail and will knock you back. Most of this monster’s attacks do a lot of stun damage, so bring gear with resistance to that ailment or dodge every move.
Enrage
The queue for Bazelgeuse to enrage in MHW is when its body charges up and lights up with fire. It’ll repeat most of its moves, with the addition of the following ones:
- Flamethrower: When landed, Bazelgeuse will shoot flames out of its mouth. This attack has a high chance of inflicting fireblight, so try to dodge it, and if you get hit, roll as fast as possible.
- Improved explosive scales: When enraged, any scales this monster drops will light up and explode after a few seconds, regardless of whether they are hit or not. During this attack, don’t engage the monster and instead run as far away as possible.
- Bombing attack: Bazelgeuse will fly up and high and do several bombing runs. Usually, it flies in a straight line three times to drop scales and finish up with a diving attack that can cart you. Try to run away until it gets tired.
The easiest way to take down Bazelgeuse in MHW is by climbing it with your Clutch Claw or mounting it and hitting it until you get Bomb Pods. These do a lot of damage and can bring it down. Thankfully, its weak spots are easy to see because they are its scales. We’ve done this fight with Sword and Shield, which is one of the shortest weapons, and we find it even easier because you can stay below the creature and hit it as fast as you can.
Still, it is important to grab some food, the best armor you have, some cool drinks, and a lot of potions because you’re in for a long fight. If you’re struggling with it, don’t hesitate to send out an S.O.S flare to call other hunters for help.
