Upon entering the lush green fields of Elden Ring’s Limgrave, you already know the dangers that lie ahead. But even beyond the Tree Sentinel stalking the nearby roads, there are strange, arcane entrances to boss fights contained in Evergaols. One such prison holds the Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in Elden Ring, and we can share tricks to defeat him.
Boss Guide: How to Beat Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in Elden Ring
Bloodhound Knight Darriwil thrives in close combat and closing the gap between you and him in Elden Ring. He has a low HP pool, is weak to ranged attacks, is susceptible to Bleed, and staggers easily. This means he’s a perfect boss for any reasonable build in the game to get some practice.
How to Defeat Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in Close Combat
This encompasses any fledgling player trying out the excellent melee combat in Elden Ring. The best advice for players is to have a small shield like a buckler or the Red Thorn Roundshield (for example) equipped on your offhand for parrying. This enemy has several basic attacks and can hurt you easily.
If you’re a defensive fighter, you can reasonably block these, but try to parry his attacks, primarily when he swings his greatsword in a horizontal arc. This opens him up for your follow-up counterattack, yielding huge damage. If you follow this routine, you can finish this fight easily. However, vertical swings, lunges, and his claw attack are more unpredictable and trickier to block or counter, so prepare to dodge when he winds these up.
Finally, those who choose the Samurai preset can enjoy the Uchigatana’s innate Bleed. While other early weapons are better for Bleed, the range and strength of the Uchigatana are hard to beat, even though other Bleed weapons are found later.
How To Beat Bloodhount Knight Darriwil with Magic or Ranged Attacks
Darriwil folds like a wet napkin to ranged magic, Lightning in particular, but he moves quickly. Any ranged attacker should wait between his heavy attack cycles, where he pauses before winding up another attack. This can be a grind, but if you aren’t greedy, you can outlast him.
Where Is the Darriwil Boss Fight in Elden Ring?
You can find Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol directly southeast of the First Steps Site of Grace. His Evergaol is at the edge of Limgrave’s Bridge of Sacrifice leading to the Weeping Peninsula. You can enter for free as soon as you reach this overworld and can potentially beat him with barely any upgrades and just a little practice.
If you beat this boss, you’ll get a tidy sum of 1,900 Runes and the Bloodhound Fang, a solid Curved Greatsword that stays excellent even into the late game.
