Wild Hearts is a monster hunter game similar to the Monster Hunter franchise where you fight and defeat different monsters with unique attributes and weaknesses. A big part of defeating monsters in Wild Hearts is to know their weaknesses and have a good strategy. Gritdog is one of the monsters you encounter in the game, and here is how to defeat it in Wild Hearts.
How to Defeat Gritdog in Wild Hearts
Wild Hearts is filled with different monsters each having different variations as well. Gritdog is a monster with the appearance of a half-otter and a half-groundhog which you will face on the Rogue Wave Reef.
As mentioned above, it is important to know the weaknesses of each monster you want to or have to fight. This will not only increase your chances of survival but will also make you feel like a true monster hunter. Here are some of the general stuff you should know about Gritdog:
- Weakness: Head
- Soft Parts: Front legs, body, hind legs
- Attribute Weakness: Wind and wood
- Physical: Slash and lunge
- Ailment Weakness: Poison
- Best Karakuri: Elemental Lantern and Spring Karakuri
Gritdog has several attacks that you must know how to dodge. One of the first attacks it uses is to make a magnetic field by moving its tail. These attacks usually come from underground so look for the dark spot on the ground and dodge it once you’ve spotted it.
After doing this attack, Gritdog will take some time to restock which is the best time to attack. Pick your most powerful weapon and do your best to hit its head. Once you’ve noticed it’s going to recover get away from it.
This would be an easier fight if you decide to use long-range weapons like a bow. You can stay away from the monster and aim for the head.
One of the other moves Gritdog uses is the Belly Flap which launches itself into the air and comes down with its belly. You must dodge quickly or use Spring Karakuri if you have it.

Then at the end of the battle, it will spawn an Ironsand Bulwark Karakuri that sends ironsand spikes your way. It is best to use the Elemental Lantern so you would take less damage from the spikes.
