With the Genshin Impact 4.0 update, you can now dive into the depths of the ocean and discover new quirky creatures and lovely areas. Underwater swimming was not previously available in Genshin Impact and you could only swim on the surface of the water. This new swimming mechanism is only active in the new Fontaine region, inside the Hydro nation. This guide will show you everything about underwater swimming and diving in Genshin Impact.
Diving and Swimming Underwater in Genshin Impact Explained
(Updated on October 7, 2024 – updated links and format)
To dive underwater in Fontaine, you’ll need to gain the Fontaine’s Blessings ability. Luckily, you don’t need to complete a series of questlines to get this unique ability. You just need to interact with the Statue of the Seven Fontaine. All three statutes are located in the Hydro nation and tracking them down is pretty easy. Here are the locations of all statues:
- The first statue is located in Romaritime Harbor.
- The second statue is located in the main city, the Court of Fontaine.
- The third and last statue is located in Romaritime Harbor and you need to catch the Aquabus for it.
Once you interact with the Statue of the Seven Fontaine, a tutorial will appear on your screen, showing you how to dive and swim underwater in Genshin Impact. After learning how to dive, you can go to any swimmable area and dive. Note that you can only dive in Hydro and not other regions.
You can customize and bind your diving keys in your Settings. Simply, go to Settings and click “Key Bindings”. The default key for diving is “Left Ctrl” on PC. This move is considered as crouching downward in the game, so you have to check that part. Once you press the designated button on your keyboard or console, you will dive underwater. You can move and sprint as usual.
Diving Underwater Mechanics in Genshin Impact 4.0
There is no oxygen bar underwater and you can freely explore the ocean. This mechanic allows you to stay underwater without experiencing any limitations. However, you can sprint underwater to go faster, just like you can do on land. This mechanic is called Aquatic Stamina and it consumes stamina whenever you sprint. You can restore your Aquatic Stamina by interacting with Revival Orbs or resting.
There are water currents throwing you away and tons of interesting creatures under the water. You can have combat encounters with some of the creatures, while some are completely harmless. You will see new different skill icons at the bottom right of your screen. It is possible to perform different actions underwater by using these skills.
