Upgrades in Diablo 4 should always be on your mind, and when it comes to upgrading your gear, Baleful Fragments are instrumental. They’re necessary if you want to Temper, Enchant, or Imprint your weapons with new stats or properties– some of which are game-changing and build-defining. Here’s how to farm Baleful Fragments in Diablo 4 to keep the upgrades flowing smoothly.
Where to Get Baleful Fragments in Diablo 4
[Updated on August 27, 2024 – Guide revised to reflect the Loot Reborn and Diablo 4 Season changes]
Finding Baleful Fragments is simple enough. You just need to salvage Legendary weapons. So the only way to get a lot of Baleful Fragments is to salvage a lot of Legendary gear.
That also means you will want to shift your focus on farming Legendary gear instead and just remember to salvage them instead of selling them for Gold. Sell the Rare gear instead if you’re in need of Gold. While you might think you don’t need too many Baleful Fragments now, it can run out fast given how often you find better gear in Diablo 4‘s endgame.
Below are some tried and tested methods I’ll recommend so you can farm Legendary gear efficiently. It’s a step-by-step process too.
- Farm Nightmare Dungeons or Blood Maidens in Helltides for Infernal Hordes Compasses.
- Get as many Infernal Hordes Compasses as you can fit in your Consumables inventory.
- Run the highest Infernal Hordes Compass you can handle.
- At the end of the Infernal Hordes wave, pick the gear chest until you run out of Burning Aether.
- Grab all the Legendary gear that dropped from the chest.
- Salvage the Legendary gear without a Greater Affix.
- Repeat steps 3-7.
You’ll get more Legendary gear this way compared to running Helltides and opening Tormented Chests. Besides, Infernal Hordes missions are short depending on what tier you pick.
How to Use Baleful Fragments
Once you’ve salvaged your spare Legendary gear, you don’t need to worry about where the Baleful Fragments go. They’ll automatically be stored in your Inventory, specifically in the Stock Goods section of the Stats and Materials tab. You can also check there for the amount.
Baleful Fragments will then be automatically used during these activities by the Occultist and the Blacksmith:
- Weapon Imprint Aspect (5x Baleful Fragments per imprint)
- Weapon Enchant Item (15x Baleful Fragments per enchant)
- Weapon Tempering (2x Baleful Fragments per temper)
So you’re going to need quite a bit for your weapons, especially if your class or build uses multiple ones. The good news is that Unique Items don’t use Baleful Fragments, so that’s something you might want to consider if it fits your build.
