In Nightingale, there are easy ways to farm Essence once you complete the tutorial. The most basic form, Essence Dust, is easily farmed by crafting clusters of Rock Marbles. Each Marble can be extracted for twice as much Essence Dust as a single Rock. A bundle of 6 Rocks gives you 6 Essence, but a bundle of 20 Marbles you can make from those gives you a whopping 40 Essence.
Generally, extracting Marbles and ammo of ascending rarity will get you more Essence. You get more from them than you would from the materials that go into crafting them. Beyond this method, harvesting or finding higher-tier essence boils down to exploring the realms you discover.
