At first, this will allow you to better explore the world, but after a few hours, you will want to move between quests as fast as possible. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 will only allow you to fast travel to certain locations, namely the Ancient Rune Circles.

Ancient Rune Circles are runic pictures that you can find throughout the game world. They are fast travel points you can travel for free. But first of all, you need to unlock these Rune Circles.
