This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

You’d think a Shovel would be a pretty common thing to have and find in a game like Sons of the Forest, but really, you’ll have to put in some work to get your hands on it. Much like some other items like the Rope Gun and the Cross, if you want to get the Shovel, you’ll have to go digging around in caves. Now, if you know anything about Sons of the Forest, then you know just how difficult caves can be to get through safely. There are cannibals surrounding the areas, mutants lurking in the areas within, and loads of places to fall and hurt yourself in between.

Before you get started, be sure to gear up properly to take on a cave. Before you can access the Shovel Cave, you’ll need the Rope Gun and the Rebreather. This cave is extremely flooded, so it’ll be pretty difficult to get inside without the right tools. However, once you have them, head to the Flooded cave, found in the central portion of the Island at the foot of the mountain.

As you head inside the cave, there are some things you’ll probably notice. First, there’s a super steep drop that you have to avoid falling down. Use your Rope Gun to repel down and grab an Air Tank, then climb back up.

Once you get back up, remove the cloth from the rope that runs to the next area, then use your Rope Gun to get across. In the next area, you’ll find loads of resources, as well as a tunnel that will lead you to the next area of the cave. Continue to follow the underwater tunnel and monitor your oxygen levels along the way.

In the next area of the cave, you’ll encounter some cannibals who are more than eager to attack you as soon as you step out of the water. Take them down quickly, then continue to follow the path. In the next area, you’ll find some more cannibals as well as:

  • Ammo
  • Wetsuit
  • Air Tank

Continue this trend of fighting any enemies, collecting resources, and following the path to the next area until you come to a large open area with a single worker’s body illuminated in the darkness. The worker will be holding the Shovel. Keep in mind that when you encounter the worker, the Twins will burst from the ground behind him, so be ready to fight.

Sons of the Forest is now available on PC.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
