There are 3 different ways to get a Handmade Fishing Rod in Rust. The first way is to buy it from the Shop Keeper in Fishing Village for 80 Scrap. The second is to learn the blueprint and craft it with 2ft Rope and 200 Wood. The last and most preferred one is to get the quest called “Tackle the day” from the Fisherman and get a Fishing Rod in return.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to fish in Rust:

  1. Cast a fishing line

After you acquire a Fishing Rod, cast it into the sea and wait for the fish.

    Cast the fishing rod

  2. Tire the fish

When the fish starts to flee left and right, follow the fish with the Fishing Rod and hold down the “S” key.

  3. Do not hold “S” too long

Release the “S” button as soon as you feel the line trembling or you will lose the fish. You should repeat these steps until you pull the fish out. Finally, when the fish is tired enough and approaches you, you will automatically catch the fish.
