At least it’s not the red ring of death.

The Finals has a surprising feature that none of us could have seen coming: the black screen of death. While the game’s pretty great, and it shows a lot of promise, there have been more than a couple of issues with matchmaking and even just getting the game to start up. Typically, you’ll see the black screen on startup, just after the game begins and just before you can actually access anything within it. The black screen can last for seconds or even several minutes. With newer games, you can typically expect a couple of hiccups along the way, so let’s take a look at how to fix the black screen in The Finals.

We’ve actually found a few potential fixes for the issues with the black screen in The Finals.

  1. Check The Finals system requirements.

The Finals doesn’t require you to have a supercomputer, but it also requires a bit more than the bare minimum. It would be a great idea to check the requirements for the game and rule that out before you move on to finding different solutions. You should at least have:

  • OS: Windows 10 or later 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen R5 1600 processor
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 580
  • DirectX: Version 12

However, if you want the game to run well, the recommended requirements are:

  • OS: Windows 10 or later 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
  • DirectX: Version 12

2. Update your graphics drivers

It’s pretty common sense, but honestly, it’s something that even slips my mind every once in a while. Check out all your drivers, as they might need to be updated.

3. Reinstall The Finals

Sometimes, there can be issues with your game’s installation. The best solution in this case is to uninstall and redownload the game. However, you can also verify the file integrity of your game from Steam’s settings as well.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
