Friends List Not Working In Fallout 76
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Since co-op gameplay is a central element of Fallout 76, a Friends List full of online acquaintances and real-life companions is something many Vault Dwellers will build up over their time in Appalachia, West Virginia. Those familiar with the game’s launch in October 2018 will know that the experience used to be extremely rough, to the point of being unplayable for many. However, the game has undergone massive improvements yet still contains glitches, bugs, and errors that trouble players up until today. One such issue is the Friends List not working for adventurers, causing them to be unable to invite and play with their mates in Appalachia.

Fixing Friends List Not Working in Fallout 76

Using the Social Tab in the Main Menu of Fallout 76

One of the best ways to fix the issue with the Friends List not working in Fallout 76 is by using the Social Tab in the Main Menu to find one’s friends. In other words, you need to ensure you are not in-game when adding or checking for other players on your Friends List.

The solution above was used by YouTuber Koda, who attempted a fix for the problem with the Friends List not working in Fallout 76 in Dec 2018. According to sources at Gamer Tweak, this fix is still relevant in February 2023. The official Help section at Bethesda.net also encourages users to “go into the Social Menu to the Recent Players tab and select any player in the List before canceling out and returning to the Friends tab.” Restarting is also a potential solution for this problem, as the Friends List might be working after players boot the game back up. Bethesda.net states that the sync between your Friends List on the platform you are playing and the Fallout 76 Friends List might take longer than expected, so patience is required.

Another way to ensure that nothing is hindering you from seeing friends on your Friends List in Fallout 76 is by checking for any restrictions that have been put into place in your settings. For instance, allowing Friends to be able to “See you’re online” or “See your game and app history” is required for having them appear in your Friends List. Finally, make sure that there is no ongoing maintenance at Bethesda by checking their Server Status Page or their official Twitter account.

Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
