How To Get a Mount and Ride a Pal in Palworld

Built for speed.

Palworld offers players an expansive map including various biomes to explore, and getting a mount is essential if you don’t want travel to take forever. Although there’s fast travel, it’s only available between your base and specific sites, and just like in Pokemon, jogging everywhere is slow. When descending high places, a glider is also an option. For speed and convenience, however, your best bet is a mount. Thankfully, your Pals are happy to offer you rides, once you’ve captured and equipped them properly. Here’s everything you need to know about how to ride a Pal in Palworld.

The best mount you can get your hands on early in the game is Direhowl. This striking wolf-like Pal isn’t found in the starting area, but even if you don’t adventure down the hill and beyond the beaches into the valleys where they live, you’ll likely see Direhowls soon. That’s because Direhowl is one of the wild Pals that sometimes launches raids on your base. You’ll need to capture one to use as a mount, but fortunately, they’re not too tough.

Just like Pokemon, Pals have types that are important to know when trying to catch them. Direhowl is a Neutral-type Pal, however, so elemental weaknesses aren’t a big concern. Just lower its HP with a weapon or your Pals and then catch it with a Pal Sphere. Once you have a Direhowl, you need Direhowl’s Saddled Harness to ride it. You unlock this blueprint at Level 9 on the tech tree, so if you don’t have it yet, just keep leveling up until you do. To craft it you’ll need a Pal Gear Workbench (unlocked at Level 6 on the tech tree) and the following ingredients:

  • Leather x10
  • Wood x20
  • Fiber x15
  • Paldium Fragment x10

Direhowl’s Saddled Harness is automatically equipped to the Direhowl in your party once you craft it, so there’s no need to sift through menus. It’s finally time to actually ride your Pal. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Press “1” and “3” to swap through your party members until Direhowl is selected
  • Press “E” to summon your Direhowl
  • Hold “F” until you mount Direhowl

Dismounting your Pal is as easy as holding “F” while mounted. While riding your Pal you can still fire your bow or take direct command of your Pal’s abilities if you need to catch Pals or battle the Syndicate. Exploring and finding distant Fast Travel points are much easier with a Direhowl, so don’t be afraid to travel beyond the base. Now that you have a mount and know how to ride a Pal, your best bet is to start seriously exploring. You never know what Pals you might discover next.

Palworld is available for PC in early access.
