Surviving the apocalyptic blizzard is a challenging task, and you must gather various basic resources to keep your city running in Frostpunk 2. Unfortunately, hell has come on Earth, and there are not a lot of things that are suitable for human use. The area around you is dead ice, and you must plan your expansion meticulously in search of more resources. To make matters worse, you must also prepare for the Whiteout event, where your citizens are forced to stay inside. You will get a game over if you don’t have enough resources before that point.
There are five basic resources you can find in Frostpunk 2. Here is the full list:
- Scraps
- Prefabs
- Heat & Oil
- Food
- Material
Scraps
Scraps is the most basic resource you can obtain in Frostpunk 2. You will need it to build various structures and perform all sorts of activities. Luckily, it is also the easiest one to gather. You will automatically obtain more Scraps every week from your community in the Housing districts. The bigger the number of people you have, the more Scraps they can donate.
Of course, if things get tough, you can also force them to donate. Be careful when doing this, though, because it will lower your reputation. On the other hand, if you have a ton of them, you can return Scraps to your citizens to get relationship and trust points.
Prefabs
The second important basic resource in Frostpunk 2 is Prefabs. Honestly, during the prologue gameplay, I struggled to obtain this material the most. You can get this item by placing Extraction districts on Maintenance Wagons or Abandoned Ruins.
The problem starts when you don’t even have enough Prefabs to build another building. At that point, you can wait until time passes and your current Extraction districts produce enough. Or, if you’re really desperate, you can dismantle established districts to obtain their Prefabs. Note that the process still requires time.
Heat & Oil
I prefer to combine these two basic resources into one since they are connected in Frostpunk 2. You can obtain Oil by building Extraction districts on Oil Wagons. Of course, you’ll need to defrost the area around it first.
Once you have enough Oil, you can power your Generator. During the prologue section, it’ll be the Dreadnought’s Furnace. This will create Heat for your civilians, which keeps them healthy and happy. There is also an option to activate Overdrive, but I don’t recommend it unless you are cornered since it will quickly wear down your Generator.
Food
If you have people, then you need food. Although Earth is covered in snow and ice, you can still plant some vegetables or hunt wild seals. You can obtain more food by placing Food districts on Fertile Soil or Seal Colony. You can also build a Stockpile Hubs nearby to save your excess food.
Material
The last basic resource you need to have in Frostpunk 2 is Material. You can get this item by building Extraction districts on Frozen Forest or Iron Ore deposits. Ensure you have enough of this resource since all of your districts need it. If you fail to provide enough for a long time, your buildings will enter a Squalor state, which increases your workers’ chance of getting sick and the rate of your districts breaking down.
