Finding coal is not only a testament to being a less-than-nice kid (thanks, Santa) but also a very useful resource in many survival games. And, of course, Minecraft is one of those games, with coal giving us the ability to cook items in your furnace. However, this new entry to the Minecraft series is not a survival game but an action-strategy game, which happens to land more in my area of expertise. However, not only is the genre different this time, but also the way and use of coal itself as well. Here is how to get coal in Minecraft Legends.
How To Get Coal in Minecraft Legends
While you might think that the only thing you need to do to collect coal is just to adventure yourself into the wild and mine it, you will be surprised to know that there are a couple of things you must do first to get coal in Minecraft Legends. Thankfully, you don’t have to deal with any impossible task or mazes to do so. All you have to do is play further into the story until you have unlocked the ability to gather coal.
You will know this once you receive the “Gather Coal” improvement in your Melody Book, which will happen after you are tasked to visit the Well of Fate to get the iron improvement. Once you unlock this ability, you will have to place down this improvement to the Well of Fate and send an Allay to collect the coal. Then, finally, you will be able to find and collect coal in the wild.
If you are having trouble finding coal, some biomes have a large concentration of coal. All you need to do is open up your map and scroll over each location to see which resource each biome contains. In the case of coal, you will want to travel to either the Badlands or the Meadow. You will be able to find a good concentration of this resource, as shown in the image above.
How To Use Coal in Minecraft Legends
While you won’t be able to use coal for cooking your meals and pastries, it will be quite a handy resource to progress further into the story and not die trying. Why? Well, because it is a very useful resource to build advanced structures and buildings such as towers and defenses, as well as the Spawner, which will allow you to, well, spawn creepers that you will get to use to destroy Piglin bases.

Just be sure to keep collecting coal in the wild, and you will have a strong army to defeat any danger you will encounter. Spamming creepers have never been quite as satisfying as in Minecraft Legends.
Minecraft Legends is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows.
