As one of the most essential activities in Starfield, space travel requires a qualified team. Of course, at the beginning of your journey, you will have a small crew and will not have to worry about fuel tanks or repairs to your ship. But as you visit more far space systems, you must improve your spaceship and hire more crew members. As you progress through the story, you will quickly meet many suitable candidates, but space on the ship is limited, and your captain skills are not that good. So, we are here to help you and tell you how to get extra crew slots on your ship in Starfield.

Starfield: All Steps To Add More Crew Members to Your Ship

First of all, it is worth noting that getting extra crew slots in Starfield is a combined process consisting of two stages:

  • Increase space on your ship.
  • Level up your Ship Command skill.

Firstly, it is logical that the place on your starting ship is limited, and there is no way you can put more people there. To fix this, you must go to Spaceports in any city and visit the Ship Services Technician. After talking to this NPC, you can upgrade your ship by purchasing and installing several Hab Ship Modules. Note that if your space vehicle is too small, you won’t be able to install too many Ship Modules on it. However, here are a few Hab Modules options that you can buy and install on your ship:

  • Demios All-in-One Berth 3×1 – 2 passengers.
  • Nova Galactic All-in-One Berth 2×1 A – 2 passengers.
  • Nova Galactic Living Quarters 2×1 – 2 passengers.

Alternatively, you can buy a large ship or steal it during your travels in space. If you have enough money or are not afraid of the consequences of piracy, we advise you to resort to this method. In the future, it will be much easier for you to upgrade and install Ship Modules on a large vehicle.

However, increasing the ship’s capacity does not make you a more qualified captain. Of course, you can carry more people on board, but you can not assign them as crew members. To fix this, you should level up the Ship Command skill. Depending on the level of this skill, you can increase the team by up to 8 people. But this is the maximum. So, by increasing the Ship Command skill to the maximum level and having nine or more seats on the ship, your team can have no more than eight crew members.
