Larian Studios throws a curve ball at the start of Act 2 in its expansive RPG. The Shadow Curse will make it difficult to maneuver without taking damage. You have a few solutions, like lighting fires and holding torches. The best solution is to get and fix the Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3. While Shadowheart will be okay, the rest of your party will need this item to help them survive against the curse and the plentiful enemies lurking in the darkness.

Where to Get the Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3

When going through the darkness, you have two ways to get a Moon Lantern. The first is in Moonrise Towers, and the second is from a quest you obtain from Harper Branthos outside of Last Light Inn.

The convoy that Harper Branthos tells you about will get you a Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3. You can convince the lantern holder, Kar’niss, or kill him and his crew. Either way, you can get the Moon Lantern, which has an aura to protect your party from the darkness in the Shadow Cursed Lands. You can hold it with one of your party members or free the pixie inside. Releasing Dolly Dolly Dolly will grant you an orb to give everyone immunity. Just use the item you receive from her after every long rest, and you are good to go.

The other comes in Moonrise Towers on the first floor. A hint will be given from Disciple Z’rell, who mentions Balthazar’s Room. To find the room, go up the right staircase from the throne where General Ketheric Thorm sat. Take a left and go up the stairs to your right. A doorway will be at the top of the stairs; go through it and go through the door to your right. In this new room, there will be a locked door. Either lockpick the door to Balthazar’s Room or get the key from an enemy on the perimeter of Moonrise Towers. Toward the right side of the room will be a desk, with the Moon Lantern leaning against it for you to pick up.

If you have an issue with a broken Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will be better off getting one of the two options we listed rather than trying to fix it. You will need pixie dust, which is no easy way to obtain.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
