Watching a floating present drift by in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is pretty exciting until you realize you don’t know how to get it. These pretty parcels can deliver some serious rewards, but only once you know how to snag them. Once you know how to get a Slingshot in Animal Crossing, however, knocking these gifts out of the air and claiming their contents for yourself is easy. Just make sure you don’t accidentally drop them into the water. The franchise is full of eclectic characters, but none of them are too fond of soggy presents, after all. Here’s how to get floating presents in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

To get the floating gifts in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you need a Slingshot. Fortunately, it’s not much harder to get one than it is to get a Shovel. If you don’t already have a Slingshot, you can get one by following these steps:

  • Purchase the recipe from Timmy for 300 Bells
  • Get Hardwood x5
  • Craft the Slingshot at a DIY workbench
  • Equip the Slingshot by pressing “Left Arrow” or “Right Arrow”
  • Position yourself under the floating present you want to shoot
  • Press A to fire the Slingshot and knock the present down

If you’re in a rush, you can simply buy a Slingshot from Timmy for 900 Bells instead of purchasing the recipe and making one of your own. This method is faster, but it costs three times as much. Worse, Slingshots have durability, so when yours eventually breaks, you’ll have to fork over even more money to replace it. Assuming you have the time, it’s always better to purchase the recipe instead of the item. That way you can replace your trusty Slingshot as often as you need to. The floating presents of Animal Crossing will never be safe again now that you know how to get a Slingshot.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for Nintendo Switch.
