There are a number of ballistic and energy sniper rifles in Starfield, and most of them prove perfect for a stealth sniper build. But snagging one can be quite challenging, as most of these rifles are high-end, making them only spawn at certain levels. If you want to get your hands on the Hard Target in Starfield, for example, prepare for a bit of a grind. Thankfully, this guide will help you acquire the powerhouse of a sniper rifle, along with a bit of ammunition, to live out your space sniper dreams.

Where to Find the Hard Target Sniper Rifle

For those playing a sniper build, the one weapon you want to find is Hard Target. It’s a powerful sniper rifle capable of dealing physical ballistic damage to enemies from afar. But to acquire one, you’ll need to pony up those credits and buy this rifle or hope for a spawn by taking down bosses and looting containers. It is, unfortunately, despite being a named weapon, not one that spawns in a singular location.

Upon hitting level 30, Hard Target will begin spawning in various shop vendor inventories. You can find one by checking frequently at:

  • UC Surplus in The Well, New Atlantis
  • Centaurian Arsenal in New Atlantis
  • Rowland Arms in Akila City
  • Neon Tactical in Neon

On average, this high-powered rifle will cost approximately 20,000 credits, which isn’t an overly large lump sum of cash in the Settled Systems. It’s not exactly cheap, either, though. If you have a high Commerce skill, you will receive a reduced price.

Alternatively, you can loot Hard Target. First, travel to a high-level star system, then find yourself an enemy that’s at least level 60. The higher, the better, and also, the higher your difficulty, the greater your chances of spawning high-end gear like Hard Target.
