Iron Ore is necessary to create Steel Bars that help repair the bridge in My Time at Sandrock. But when you get the mission to fix the bridge, it’s difficult to mine for this resource. The Abandoned Ruins they are found in becomes accessible later on, and you need Iron Ore quickly. Besides repairing the bridge, you’ll need the ore to acquire higher-tier equipment.
Iron Ore Sources in My Time at Sandrock
You can get Iron Ore from the following sources in My Time at Sandrock:
- Eufaula Salvage Shop
- Gecko Station Ruins
- Hammer Time
- Commerce Guild Store
Shortly after Steel Bars become a requirement for the main questline, Iron Ore will be available at Eufaula Salvage Shop. It’s inexpensive, and new stock arrives after some time. While repairing the bridge, this is your best ore source besides rare drops from Gecko Station Ruins. If you get lucky with Graphite mining, you can make Steel Bars for the mission requirements.
Once the bridge repairs are finished, you can head to Gecko Station Ruins and start mining the rocks to get Iron. It is faster, has higher yields, and is more convenient than buying from Eufaula Salvage. If you adopt a pet, you can send it on dispatch, and it can sometimes return with Iron Ore. While the yields are lower, you can spend time gathering different resources.
Other stores, such as Hammer Time or the Commerce Guild Store, begin stocking Iron Ore after a while. This allows you to purchase the ore in the town after you have accepted a commission or a new task.
Iron Ore is a useful resource throughout the game, as it is necessary for materials such as the Manganese Steel Bar. Once you open up another source of Graphite, forging the next levels of equipment will be easier.
