Being able to get items in Halls of Torment is pretty important for any run in this roguelike Diablo-esque RPG. After all, loot gives you crucial additional stat buffs and bonus effects. Nevertheless, finding an item in this indie loot-based action RPG from the developer of Good Company is not as straightforward as it seems. Read on below to learn how you can acquire items in Halls of Torment.
Getting Items in Halls of Torment
Items in Hall of Torments can be found from Treasure Chests usually dropped by boss enemies and by completing quests. Opening a Chest should let you pick one between three randomly generated items, each filling a different slot in the equipment menu. There are six types of items that you can equip on your character:
- Headwear
- Necklace
- Garment
- Gloves
- Ring
- Footwear
Just like in Diablo and many other loot-based action RPGs, the items in Halls of Torment will provide a variety of buffs. Some of them might simply give minor or major stat bonuses. While others can add unique properties such as summoning helpful minions or dealing additional area-of-effect damage. Meanwhile, common items like Gold, Potions, and Hands can be found inside crates and boxes. Hands are used to collect XP orbs that you didn’t pick up.
Saving Items for The Next Run
Items you acquired in Halls of Torment will be lost upon death, but there is a way to permanently keep one of them per run. You will have to save the Wellkeeper NPC in the Ember Ground, the second Hall or level of the game. Explore the area thoroughly and you should come across the Wellkeeper trapped in a cage. Look on the same level for the key and help him escape. Once saved, you can find the Wellkeeper mingling around the bonfire before the start of a run.
Completing the Halls of Torment Wellkeeper’s quest will unlock the ability to save one item from each run. In a level, search for a well with a dangling bucket. Interact with it to send an item to the Wellkeeper. In exchange for some Gold, you can use the item as a starting loadout in a new run. Of course, since only one thing can be put inside the bucket, all of the other equipment will be lost when you end a run. And remember that Gold is also used for crucial stat upgrades, so spend them wisely!
Halls of Torment is available as an Early Access title on PC via Steam.
