If you ask any Monster Hunter player about what the true endgame is, a few may talk about the most challenging hunts or crafting that perfect build. Yet, the majority will tell you one thing: fashion. That applies to Monster Hunter Outlanders, too, as there’s also a way to obtain layered armor and weapons. Still, the process to obtain these items can be a bit tricky and quite new for those who are used to just hunting these fashion pieces in other titles.
How to Get & Use Layered Armor and Weapons in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Getting layered armor and weapons in Monster Hunter Outlanders works quite differently compared to previous titles some other hunters may have played. In other mainline games, all you have to do is craft the HR version of an armor set or weapon, and it becomes available as a layered outfit. Yet, for Outlanders, it isn’t quite like that.
At first, you’ll be obtaining layered armor and weapons through Style Crates. You can obtain these crates through different means:
- As a reward from your first Free hunt of a specific monster (1 per hunt).
- By ranking up your Area Study in different areas (usually obtainable at ranks 4 and onward).
- Through the Tailor by using Finery Coins.
While the RNG part of obtaining gear might not be the best, it isn’t the worst either, as you’ll be getting a lot of these crates as you play. Yet if you want a specific set, you will have to open them all, and if you have extra coins, you can get the necessary crates and keep trying your luck.
Obtaining Skins
One thing to keep in mind is that the above system only applies to layered armor and weapons in Monster Hunter Outlanders, and only for parts. There is another thing called Skins, which is a complete outfit you can’t mix and match with other pieces.
Normally, you get them by purchasing them at the store or through some events, such as the launch one. If you want to get a specific outfit for some of your adventurers, we recommend checking the event and appearances tab, as they will often tell you where to get them.
In the end, there’s a lot of RNG in the layered armor and weapon system, and while that may hinder your fashion goals, you’ll be getting a lot of these pieces eventually, so you just have to keep grinding.
