Nautilus Shells aren’t used in any Recipes, but this ancient shell is needed for sidequests like Field Research Bundle or Sturgeon’s Fish Pond request. It can also be utilized to create the dyeable Strapped Top on the Sewing Machine or as an Orange Dye in the Dye Pots. Nevertheless, while its function is pretty specific, finding Nautilus Shells in Stardew Valley can be tough at times as they are somewhat rare.

The Nautilus Shell in Stardew Valley can be found in several different ways. First, it mostly spawns at The Beach, south of Pelican Town, during Winter. However, it can also appear on the Beach Farm at any season. Foraging the Mines on Levels 1 to 29 when the Shrine of Challenge is active is a decent way to farm the Shell too. Remember that forage items are reset after Saturday so checking their spawn on Friday and Sunday is a good way to find them.

Speaking of farming, Crab Pot fish like Mussel, Cockle, and Shrimp in a Fish Pond have a chance of producing Nautilus Shells. Just make sure that the Fish Pond population has reached nine before trying to do so. As an alternative to raising fish, the sometimes Travelling Cart sells the item for 360 to 1,000 Gold as well.

Lastly, Demetrius may also send you one randomly in the mail. Or it may appear as a gift during the Feast of the Winter Star Festival. Nautilus Shells can be used as a gift, but most villagers have a neutral reaction when given the item, except for two people. Leo likes it while Harvey hates the clam carapace.
