If you don’t want to be devoured by the dangers that lurk between the stars in Warhammer 40k, you’re going to need some Navigator Insight. This scarce resource allows you to make otherwise lethal routes safer, making navigating the game’s massive universe much easier. There are already plenty of ways to die in the game, so it’s wise to eliminate unnecessary ones.

You use Navigator’s Insight to build warp routes and make warp routes safer. There are a couple of ways to get Navigator Insight in Rogue Trader. Exploration is the most straightforward. Every time you finish exploring 100% of a system, the game rewards you with 1 Navigator Insight. This mechanic incentivizes you to explore as much of the universe as you can, spending the Insight you acquire to make warp routes safer. The second main way to get more Navigator Insight is from space events. These events can trigger whenever you travel along unsafe warp routes. Here are the kinds of warp routes you can find:

  • Green (safe)
  • Yellow (unsafe)
  • Orange (dangerous)
  • Red (deadly)

When traveling down a yellow, orange, or red warp route, there’s a chance of triggering a space event that will reward you with Navigator Insight. That means one of the best ways to get Navigator Insight in Rogue Trader is to leave some routes unsafe as a way of grinding this valuable resource. Orange and red routes are far too dangerous to travel unless you have no other choice, but yellow routes are relatively safe. Spend your Navigator Insight to reduce the threat level of red and orange routes that you know you’ll need to travel, such as those that connect colonized worlds.

If you want to survive long enough to improve your Profit Factor, always leave some routes yellow. You’ll need them to trigger space events such as Trust the Navigator and get more Navigator Insight. When possible, it’s a good idea to hang on to a few points for later. That way you can make routes safe when you advance in the story and open new areas of the map. The risk of your ship suffering catastrophic damage or worse is high when traveling red routes, which is why Navigator Insight is one of the most coveted resources in Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader.
